Looks like North and Central Texas will see the arrival of the Polar Vortex approx. Jan 11. Expect sub -zero temperatures, snow and ice and the worst of all the stress on the grid= power failures.

Texas is probably the only state that does not share power with a regional grid.

Probably because it's the biggest state in the union

You get what you pay for.

Good luck. Stay warm.

@granddi  Well, good luck and God bless! At least you have time to prepare for the outage. Not like the times when you get hit with a t storm or tornado. I guess this is where those battery operated or propane operated generators come in handy.

My brother lives in the DFW area, and one winter they were on vacation when a neighbor called to say there was water pouring out of their front door! Watch out for those pipes!

@SharkE - actually, Alaska is the largest state.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@SharkE @gidgetgh   True but Alaska is third from the bottom for least population. California I believe has the most people and I know Texas is second in population and growing.

Oh great. More crazy TX weather. It's been unseasonably hot in central TX. It's 81 degrees now and we may have a record breaking 86 tomorrow, for this time of year. I'm still using my air conditioner and fans.

I hope they're wrong about the Polar Vortex. Texans, and our power grid are not equipped to handle severe winter weather. People died the last go around.

From what I'm hearing, great steps haven't been taken to prevent loss of power from happening again. Just lots of excuses.

Texas is not the biggest state, not by population and not by land area.

Alaska is the biggest state in the union by land area. California is the biggest state by population.

Texas is the only state of the contiguous states not part of the national power grid, largely because Texas power companies chose to keep their operations completely within the state's borders, mostly to avoid federal regulations. Texas does not supply power to any other state and cannot receive power from outside its own system.

@gizmogal  As said earlier Texas is second highest population.

Coastlines are a different issue too.
