Terrible incident this afternoon at a school in the NOLA metro area. A 6 year old girl was hit and killed in the school parking lot. Details are sketchy at this point, but it's being reported that she was with a group of children and somehow darted out in front of a truck.

The driver is said to not be at fault and a school employee was there supervising. As a former teacher and a parent, I'm feeling so sad and upset for everyone involved. I just can't stop thinking about the loss of that sweet baby.

May the soul of that sweet child be blessed and condolences to her family.

When I was nine years old and leaving school after the bell had rung, a young girl had darted in front of a bus that was taking off in front of the school and was killed. I did not see the actual accident as there were a lot of cars all of a sudden, and I was being picked up to be taken to Greek lessons in a neighboring town. Thus, I was whisked away from the accident scene almost immediately.

When I returned to school, I kept imagining the little girl darting into the street and the horror that followed.

I have never forgotten the tragedy and am strangely haunted by the memory of that child (who was younger than me) to this day. Some things we never forget.

Children are unpredictable, I see cars at my granddaughts school going way too fast, not saying this happened but it was fast enough to be fatal and in my opinion that is too fast in a school parking lot, when children are near I inch forward. RIP angel.

Sending prayers for that poor family. I can only imagine what they are going through right now. May God bless and keep them in his arms of comfort during their time of grief.
