Please explain this to me - some of my friends are being taken off Medicaid.

I live in N.J. and some of my friends in my building have told me they are losing their Medicaid and they're not being told why. I've looked up online to try to understand why this is happening, but it's very hard to understand.   Can anyone explain it to me. Thank you.

Sorry, my chrystal ball is cloudy today so I cannot help you.  However, I am 100% certain that your friends do know why they are losing their Medicaid coverage.  They were give the reason and they were told what their appeal rights are.

@newjersey

They were given a reason in writing. If they don’t understand it they need to contact Medicaid. It sounds like they no longer qualify & there are many reasons why they might not.

Have you asked them about the reason they were given for being taken off the Medicaid rolls?

There could be many reasons why they're losing benefits.  Many of the rules for Medicare are enacted by the state in which the recipient lives as well as individual circumstances, so an outsider has no way of knowing why someone is being cut off.  As previously noted, people are notified well in advance of its termination.  It could be as simple as a decrease in funding.

As far as I know, everyone who is on MEDICAID has to go through the qualifying process every year. I know of someone who lost MEDICAID because she no longer qualified. There are a few easy question they ask (dont remember what they are) that you would find on the application. One had to do with the amount she paid for Meds each month which should amount to $35 or more and a few other questions.

Guess they have to find another health ins. carrier. There has to be a reason.

As I understand it, there is a yearly review.  In some cases, the person no longer qualified under the guidelines.  I do know of one case, a disabled child, where some of the information entered by the government employed was incorrect.  When the parent met face to face with a supervisor and showed him all of the documentation, he quickly apologized and corrected the situation.

Some people really don't belong in the system while others who do quality but don't know how to address the situation are left in need.

Income plays a huge role.
