Here in the Midwest I have mine in pots, and they look beautiful and very full right now, and will last thru October....

I buy "hardy mums". I just move them to the side of the house in the backyard after they are finished blooming and forget about them. Even after our three months of triple digits and no rain, my hardy mums are coming back green, lush and loaded with tiny buds soon to open. The only water they got was a bucket of water I poured on them about a month ago. I cut off the scorched leaves in August. I don't ever plant them in the ground, just leave in pots on my porch and front step area.

I purahase the cheap mums at the store and have had good luck planing them. In the spring they will come up and I have separated them into other plants. They typically bloom in the spring and again in the summer. Right now they are dying back, I will cut them back. If I do not plant my pots are hit or miss coming back.
