Plant based eater here.
Still cook meat for family members. Switched from FDA organic meat to Animal Welfare Certified. If they can be both--even better.
What difference does make what I eat to anyone else? What difference does it really make?
Does it keep you awake?
I sleep better at night.
The LAST thing I want to do is look sickly. That's ridiculous and I'm so sick of hearing it.
Do meat eaters get sick? I see so many mentions of thinning hair, bad skin, diseases, memory loss, sore hands, feet, joints. Probably the bulk of people that are here are carnivores. So I guess they have their health problems to worry about.
I just don't care to eat meat or poultry or fish or dairy or eggs. It's my choice.
Do I question those who feed the birdies, but still eat the birdies? Kinda creepy, isn't it?

Who told you that people who eat plant based protein can't or don't also eat REAL vegetables? It's not as if you have to choose only one section of the grocery store to shop from.
(are you really under the impression that people are buying fake plant-based tomatoes? that's not what is being sold. it's pretty much all fake meat and dairy, along with some gluten-free exotica with the processed cauliflower as a substitute for flour based items)
You can eat highly processed potato chips and eat non-processed natural lettuce on the same day, right? Or highly processed cereal or bread and a non-processed natural orange. Even during the same meal. You don't have to choose one over the other. Humans enjoy a variety of tastes and textures. Food science is fascinating.

I'm another one who would prefer to eat plants - as opposed to "plant based" - to the extent the latter infers highly processed foods.
My diet includes a lot of fresh, organic vegtables which I enjoy.

@rms1954 ????
A tomato is not a vegetable; it is a fruit.
I have never heard of a plant-based vegetable??? Since they are already vegetables..........they are..........vegetables.

All in all people can choose what to eat for themselves.
Interesting we have had meat based diets for decades; vegetarians were few and far between and often reverted back to meat to some degree.
All those decades when meat was ok and nobody blinked at animal rights and the effects of the environment. Now it is "trendy" and annoying to be told what to eat.
It should have been addressed decades ago instead of using it for a new purpose. I'll say no more.

Geez. I'm not TELLING people what is right/wrong or what to eat or not. It's not about meat diets or vegetarian diets. Just asking a question about WHY one would choose plant-based when you can choose the real thing. I've seen plant-based vegetables in the frozen section. No need to be so defensive.

I don't understand why they make plant-based food to look and taste like meat. More enticing vegetable entrees and other entrees for lacto-ovo (vegetarians who eat dairy products and eggs) choices for additional protein would be more persuasive to me.

@rms1954 Can you give me an example of a plant based vegetable?
Honestly I have never heard that term, much less seen any in market.
I've seen vegetables used to make plant base food items so I'm not getting how a vegetable itself is plant based.
Is this just semantics?? Toe-may-toe, Toe-mah-toe, if you will.
I'm reading this as a vegetable made from othe vegetables.
???

@CelticCrafter I don't. I don't want my food to look, smell, or taste like meat. Often people who are transitioning to this lifestyle use fake meat as a bridge. Or there are those that feel eating this faux product is better than eating an animal...it is an ethical decision. People who live this lifestyle believe that meat/dairy is not a nutritional or ethical choice. Just information, we each make our own decisions. I hope this helps answer your question.

What I don't get is, if you are a vegan or someone that doesn't eat meat, why do you want something that tastes and looks like meat?
If you are eating something that tastes like meat doesn't that mean that they had to come up with some artificial flavoring that was probably made from chemicals?
