"The above picture is a real-life skimmer in use on an ATM. Below the slot where you insert your card are raised arrows embedded in the machine's plastic casing, to give users a hint about where their cards go. You can see how the grey arrows are very close to the yellow reader housing, almost overlapping. That is a sign a skimmer was installed over the existing one, since the real card reader would have some space between the card slot and the arrows. Also, the mismatched colors are a dead giveaway that something is off with this ATM."

You can buy a skimmer on eBay

I can't tell a skimmed slot from a regular one.

I don't use my card much.

@sunshine45  Wow.  Thanks for posting this picture.  The odd color/mismatch thing is a flag but you never now, someone might be in such a hurry to pull out a little cash that they might not notice.

This particular machine sort of looks like one that is not a bank type machine but rather at a bodega.  In Manhattan lots of times you will see them outside of the little Mom and Pop convenience stores.

Re: Picture of Credit Card Reader Skimmers

I always grab the card slot and try to move it back and forth. If it moves or looks out of place in any way, I won't use it.
