Re: Phrases You Hate To Hear

Reach out instead of contact, call, text, etc.  How can you reach out when the person, company, etc is far away.  Makes no sense to me.

"Your call is very important to us." while having to wait forever on hold. The call can't be that important to them if one is unable to get through.

@VanSleepy wrote:

"I appreciate you."

I first heard this when Rob Lowe said it to every contestant as they left his game show. Now I notice it everywhere.

@VanSleepy ,

Agree...it is totally overused and now has diminished the true meaning.

We were in a restaurant a few weeks ago and a young woman said it to everyone she came in contact with while eating her breakfast.

My husband said...Wow is she really this appreciative or has nothing else to say.

I guess better than saying nasty words.

Re: Phrases You Hate To Hear

I know this is a term of endearment in some cultures & I live in a very diverse community. At Dunkin Donuts & other stores….”mommy, can I help you”. If I say thank you, “you’re welcome mommy”. It’s an expression used with older women. For my husband, he’s called “poppy”. We both hate it but those who use it are so nice so we can’t say anything.

Re: Phrases You Hate To Hear

Vibe as a verb.  I see it in advertisements and Pinterest will frequently make suggestions it thinks I might "vibe with."

I don't like gift as a verb.  It sounds pretentious and wrong to my ear.

"I was gifted," versus "I was given...."

Fewer has dropped out of the lexicon.  Everything is less now.

And my number one will always be "fur baby."  It makes my skin crawl.  A creepy mishmash of animal and human leaps to mind whenever I hear the phrase, and I can't tell if that image in my mind applies to the animal being referred to, or the human using the phrase.  The human, I think.
