welllll, it depends -- do you want a DSLR, a big zoom fixed lens or pocket?

I shoot more than 50% with my iPhone these days.

Really. What type of photos? I can't imagine using a phone for photos.

all types of photos --

I have printed my iPhone images from 2.5 inches square to 24 inches square. I have many hanging in a gallery and last fall had a show of images shot exclusively with my iPhone. Many bloggers (especially food bloggers) use iPhone images.

Next week I am shipping two iPhone images to Texas for shows and one to an exhibit in California.

I don't have an iPhone and have no plans to get one. I also like more control over the settings than what you have with a smart phone. I'm thinking about getting a DSLR to take photos of my flowers and for an upcoming vacation. Do you have any recommendations?

There are a lot of options out there and all of the cameras give you control -- it is not just the DLSR anymore. If you do not want to get into buying separate lenses -- I would check out the Panasonic Lumix superzoom cameras -- a great all round camera for macro shots and a long zoom. You can add filters to the lens to help with bright conditions while on a trip and not have to lug around a camera bag.

If you want a DSLR look at what I said earlier in the thread.

Photo Donna- I was wondering if you recommend using an iPad for photos (using the apps you mentioned).

well, I have the original iPad (no camera) so I have no direct experience. A friend of mine has the #2, takes photos, and edits them on her iPad with the apps but she says the apps don't always work on the iPad exactly like they do on the iPhone.

I prefer the phone because it is always in my bag or pocket -- it is smaller and easy to carry plus there are a lot of gizmos made for iphoneography.

Thanks so much for the info! I'm going to Italy in a few weeks & wanted to take my iPad Mini along with my iPhone in lieu of a camera. Just finished loading the apps you suggested. Going to experiment with them today. P.S.Where in Cali will your photo be on display?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I think it takes really good photos but then I'm hardly a photographer. The camera on my phone is 16 mega pixel, 10x optical zoom and has a built in image stabilizer. It is good enough for the few photos I take for my own purposes.

I can attest to the fact that PD's photos are awesome and I was shocked when she said they are from her I-Phone.
