Pets, Poision Hazzards - Important Reminder!

Hi Everyone - This is the very first time I have ever started a thread. I am doing so to share what happend to my grand puppy Crash last night.

Crash is my DS & DDIL's 15 week old black lab puppy - their very first pet. They currently live in the apt. upstairs in her parents home. Last night, she & Crash were in the basement doing laundry. Crash was playing quietly, she finished up & noticed Crash was not in the basement. She went upstairs to look for him and found him on the kitchen floor, eyes open, not moving lying in rat poision. My DS was at work & she could not reach him and of course become hysterical & didn't know what to do.

She managed to call me. I had her on one line & the emergency vet hospital on the other to relay info back n forth. The hospital told us what to do to get Crash to begin vomiting & told us to get to the emergency hospital immediately - they would be ready for us. The hospital was 1/2 hour away, we raced Crash in & they began working on him. We had no idea how much he ate - the vet told us he did not consume a large amount & the fact he was only out of my DIL's sight minutes was a blessing. Unfortuantely, my DIL's parents completely forgot they had rat poision in their home.

After a few hours of his emergency treatment & observation, Crash was able to come home. He will be on meds for 1 month and will be under our vets care but he will be 100%. The hospital told us because we reacted so quickly & called ahead for help, the poision didn't get digested & we got it out as fast as it went in.

Please remember to check your home for potential poisions & hazards - epsecially if you are bringing a new pet home. Put your vets & nearest emergency vet clinic's phone numbers into your cell phone & also post in your home where you can access quickly in emergency situation. Know where the emergency clinic is & how to get there in case you don't have GPS. Call ahead in an emergency - it may make all the difference in the world!

We are grateful our story has a very happy ending! Thank you for listening & I hope sharing Crash's experience will save wonderful pet parents & their fur babies from having to go through what we went through.
