Re: Pet Peeve! What's yours?

Walking into a restroom stall and seeing the mess left on the seat by a "hygienically conscious" hoverer. That's a major pet PEEve.

this is so silly i hate to even mention it, but......my husband constantly leaves the lights on when he leaves the room.  it drives me crazy.  i was brought up to turn lights off when leaving the room.  he says, it is not costing that much in electricity so, so what?  that's not the point.  besides this, he really is a great guy.  lol  this just grates on me.  sorry everyone.

We were also brought up to turn off lights when you left a room.  It makes good sense.   For me, it's also about my disdain for being wasteful.  I don't care for wastefulness and every bit counts so I just don't leave lights on that are not necessary.  I probably have to go above and beyond to try and make up for the husband and cleaning lady, both of whom are a bit wasteful.

Usually, when I was growing up, if one didn't turn off a light, and just before getting knocked upside the head, we'd get the  old 'were you born in a barn?'.    Sooo many times I wanted to ask that awful woman 'well, you were there - you tell me'.  HA!   I'd probably not be alive to tell about it.

@chickenbutt Well this has me laughing....except for me it was my Dad screaming about closing the door to the outside when the AC was on. I can hear him now "WHADDAYA TRYING TO DO? AC THE OUTADOORS?"  So when I was finally old enough to say "Yes,Dad, YES that's EXACTLY what I was trying to do!" And there you have it, I got knocked upside the head too! RIP Dearest Dad!

People who know better than to park illegally in a handicapped spot, but think it's okay to park in the yellow striped zone right beside it. That is for the wheelchair ramp that comes down from a handicapped vehicle.

Yes, I always find that rather interesting, when people decide to park in that striped zone that means "no parking here!"

I also find it fascinating when people "make" their own parking spaces too, by parking at the "end" of a row of parked cars, where no one would actually park, because they're actually putting their car into traffic that way.

Seriously, if someone is having that much physical difficulty-or they're driving/dropping off a family member that needs help-then please ask about a handicapped parking tag for yourself or your family member.

Please-don't endanger yourself, your car, or your family member by creating a "new and unusual" parking space. Smiley Sad

Okay, this peeve really surprises me. How do you know what time restraints a retired person is working under?  Maybe she's a caretaker for a loved one and that's the only time someone could cover for her.  Maybe she just finished a morning of volunteer work at a hospital, animal shelter or food pantry.  Perhaps she has health issues which make it difficult for her to get out and about earlier than that, or she's caring for grandchildren, or shopping for a neighbor who isn't able to shop.  How can you make the generalization that she has all day to shop when you don't?

@house_cat

As you can tell from my post above,  #77 I think it is, I totally agree with you.  This attitude about when "retired" persons can and should shop has smoke coming out of my ears.  For the past year and a half I've been in chemotherapy.  My husband is semi-retired, works part time and arrives home around 12:30 so that's the time I do my errands.  He drives me and he drops me off in front of the door to the store so I don't have a lot of walking to do.  I would very much like to hop into my own car at 10AM and "do my thing" but the effects of chemo make that pretty much impossible for me to do.

How dare people like sooner and others say we "retireds" should stay away from doing errands when they're doing them...as if they own the world.  Anybody here who thinks that and would like to change places with those of us who have no choice, step right on up...you try dealing with the limitations that bring me out to shop at the same time as you do.  People like that are not my pet peeve, they just plain and simply disgust me.  You know what, there but for the grace of God go you who judge me for being out during your precious lunch time.  You should be ashamed but I doubt that you are, you're just one of those "all about me" people that I share this world with.

My point is if you don't have to shop or go to the post office in hours when working people HAVE to go, don't.  It's rude if you just decide to go then and impact people who are trying to make a living.  Retired people often act like they own the world too.  It's silly to assume what you are furious about just because I think people who don't have to clog public places when others HAVE to be there (NO CHOICE) is a pretty far assumption by the above posters.

Judging?  Really?  Think you aren't?  Good grief--talk about judging. And yeah, IF YOU WORK lunch time is precious!  You bet your bottom dollar it is.  I'm trying to live, make a living, take care of my business, my families, my moms, and gulp something down in 45 minutes to an hour.  Yes,  people should stay out of the way of the working at noon IF they can.  It's called compassion for others. There's nothing wrong with what I said--you are right about that.  It's just a thrown out opinion on a bulletin board.

Re: Pet Peeve! What's yours?

The ads on tv and in the newspaper for medicine and cures. I never heard of anyone taking them personally.

A vent about people who won't take advice about taking care of themselves ie a husband who wont go see about his eyes  and uses a magniying glass to read. Could care less about his health with diabetes and still has cokes etc. Also still smokes. All this is making him sleep also .Never tried to walk hardly. Maybe this isn't what your question was about but I need answers of what can be done. Nothing I see. I probably will go before him.
