I've been carrying Sabre pepper spray for decades on my key chain.  Check Amazon for the best selection, prices, and reviews.

 

Also attached to my keys:  safety whistle, flashlight, cat head (of course!) 'brass knuckles'.

 

Plus my cell phone is always on me.
