I often drive mainly a 2 lane highway over 5 hours to visit my parents. It’s a pet peeve when drivers stay in the left lane for routine driving. Left lane is for passing other vehicles, then go back to the right lane! And don’t get me started about passing on the right...

It depends on the state. Not every state has left lane passing laws. NC doesn't. Slower traffic should stay on the right but it seems silly to me with growing populations and rush hour traffic to use the left lane as a passing lane only. We can drive in the left if you are faster traffic. We cannot drive in the left lane and slow down the faster flow traffic. This will get you a ticket and fine.

I am another person who cannot stand litterbugs.

I helped my daughter a few years ago clean up our town for school volunteer

hours. We spend over 3 to 4 hours that morning walking around and picking

up tons of trash that accumulated over the winter months into early spring.

My husband then drove to meet us and we hauled 8 or 9 large garbage bags

away.

Our little town looked great after the major clean up. Just a day or so later

when out walking the littering continued, beer and soda cans, food wrappers,

etc. Some people are just slobs and love to make places look filthy and

disgusting. Sometimes seems like a no win situation.

Small peeves, but annoying nonetheless:

Neighbors' kids screaming all day every day outside.

Neighbors who HAVE to have a fire on every nice evening so I can't ever open my windows.  I don't mind either of these once in a while since they should be able to enjoy themselves, but have some courtesy so others can enjoy their homes as well (and be able to breathe).

People who senselessly kill bugs or snakes just because they find them.

In Ohio, I heard someone ask a police officer to confirm the left lane is for faster traffic.  The officer's answer was, "The speed limit is the same in all lanes."

Edited to add:  I forgot to mention my own pet peeve:  Neighbors who allow their dogs to bark incessantly.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

I check myself out more now at self service to avoid these hogs.

If you are checking out in front of me then you are close enough to the stick to pick it up and place it behind your groceries, while I cannot reach it because I am 6 feet behind you. I think it is polite for you to place the stick behind your groceries.Smiley Happy

UPS, FEDX, not ringing doorbell to let you know you have a package sitting out there for the world to see.  I got my tomato plants yesterday and if I hadn't checked 'informed delivery' to give you some idea when they would be coming they would sit out there for couple of days.

I called up local office and said "why don't drivers ring the doorbell it's not hard and it's free"? they said "we thought they always do". I said not my house. We don't use front door that much to stumble over the stuff .

My porch is a porch pirates dream. LOL

Then the smart thing to do is check it every day.Smiley Happy

That's one for me, too.  When we first bought this house there was one house behind us, on another street, (backyard to backyard) where the people would have their dogs outside barking almost all the time.  You couldn't even go in your own backyard without the incessant barking.  I was glad when that stopped.

One thing I taught Ru, when he was little, is that we do not bark at the neighbors.   He's very good about it and will only bark if it's a cat (he knows they will hurt the birdies we take care of), or a hawk (he knows they will hurt the little birdies), or a stranger.

He will start to bark when the mailman comes but I just say 'it's the mailman' (or the package man - yeah, he has names for everything. Smiley Very Happy) and he stops.

he's such a smart boy.  Smiley Happy

Thank you for my morning chuckles.  Some of these pet peeves are really funny.

Don't wash dirty hands in the kitchen?  So, when I'm in my kitchen and up to my elbows in chicken grease and flour, am I supposed to go to my powder room on the other side of the house to wash my hands?   I don't use paper towels.  We use cloth kitchen towels and napkins.

Of course, if you are the cook, you wash your hands in the kitchen.  I was referring to hands dirty from doing car maintance, or gardening...really dirty stuff.  I don't want chemicals in the kitchen sink where I prepare food. Often, I am cooking and can't get to the sink because someone is washing their hands...then I have to sanitize the sink before I can finish cooking.

Would you want to dry dishes with the same towel somone used to dry their hands?  Not me.

These are protocols used by the government when commercial kitchens are inspected.  My house might be dusty, but my kitchen and food are clean.
