Just last week (or the week before) I saw a poster post her son's cell # - twice - in case people didn't hear from her.

This is true, @Noel7!
And no doubt many internet-security-savvy people do that on purpose, either to protect themselves or to mess with everyone's minds.
you do realize that many posters have given each other email addresses and also belong to FB forums where one has to be invited to be a member. These people all know each other's real names and where they live, except for the random few who open up FB accounts using only nicknames so that they never reveal their true identities,
In addition there are other forums that track you by your IP address. That made me extremely uncomfortable when I started to see the true nature of some of the members especially the ones who monitor the sites.

You don't know real names if you use a throw-away for contact and then contact through a new email address, not your personal email address.
No one is going to get through that unless they are a high level hacker. But if they could do that, they would also be able to hack and track you through your QVC membership.

I've seen one really give too much info. And another do the same, but it was obvious hers was all fiction. She had a lot of followers who believed every word she said. We used to have a lot like that, not so much with the new mods, just one I can think of offhand.

I've seen too much on the old Viewpoints to be very wary of even the most mundane information. I've witnessed posters tracked through what they believed were innocent observations ... birthdates, kids' birthdays, high school attended, etc. Some were harmless ... others were hurtful; and one, in particular, turned into a real brouhaha, "outing" a poster for her highfalutin ways ...
"Oh the web we weave ... when first we practice to deceive ..."

This article appeared in my local paper today. It is about a Facebook scam. A person lost 50K. http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2016/02/bamboozled_how_man_lost_50k_in_facebook_scam.html#incar...

Several posters have been tracked down from here.

I'm surprised you haven't seen this info.
I've seen many, many people name the town they live in. One poster in particular has even narrowed down her location by naming certain restaurants and other businesses that are in her neighborhood. Others give out the year, make and model of their cars along with their locations.
I decided not to even divulge the state I live in. I only mention my location in the broadest geographical terms.

I even hate having my picture taken anymore. At my Kiwanis Club meeting today, they went over our website and new Facebook page. When I asked if the FB page was private, they said, no, public. I then had to explain that was exactly why I don't want my picture taken and don't want any pics of me appearing on a public page. I think most of them thought I was overreacting, but when I explained about facial recognition, gps locations, etc from pictures, the light bulb started to flicker on.
My avatar is not at my home location. It is hundreds of miles away.
