I've always been a dog person and didn't care much for cats...until a little female feral cat decided to adopt me a few years ago. I had just lost my dog and was "taking a break from pets". She decided I had taken a long enough break and moved on to my patio.
She had 2 babies on my patio about 7 years ago. By then she was so bonded to me, she let me pet the kittens shortly after birth. I moved them all into the house and had them spayed. The rest is history. I now have cats. Sadly, mama died last spring, but I have her two daughters.
I will always love dogs, but fate decreed I would take care of these pretty little creatures. I've grown to appreciate cats because of them.
azterry, I so identify with that! As a young adult, I got a little miniature poodle and had her for 14 years. Then I got another one..she lived to be 18. I liked cats ok, but I always said I didn't want one. However, while I still had my second little poodle my son found a tiny black kitten in a warehouse and brought it home. Need I say more??? Anyway, I fell in love with her, then 3 years later he brought home another little black one, a male..I told him to find it a home and he did...MINE! Then a couple of years later, I came home late one cold night and the sweetest little black and white almost grown one came up on my porch and rubbed around my legs. She became part of our family of 1 dog and 3 cats! Since then, I lost my little poodle, lost the first two cats, found another one, and now I still have two cats - so I'm a cat lady! I have absolutely adored all of them, both cats and dogs, and still do...the ones I have now and the ones who are gone...
We have the same taste in cat "colors" too!
One of mine is all black and the other is a Tuxedo. Both long haired--I think they have Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest cat in their ancestry.
