What is it with some of you?

Is it that you don't know enough about an auto-immune disorder to know what you're talking about?

Why on earth do you continue to belittle people who fight to stay alive almost every day?

You make fun, you say they are OCD when you clearly don't have a grasp on what that even is.

You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

I don't think the comments are directed to those who are ill; rather those that are perfectly healthy but paranoid and living their lives sanitizing everything in sight.

Obviously if someone has a compromised immune system or other health issues, they should take every precaution imaginable.

Thanks for saying that Topaz.

I really want to add though, when it comes to public restrooms, everyone should be super cautious. I posted earlier on this thread that I have been in a lot of pubic restrooms and you would not believe how many use the toilet and then walk out the door, grabbing the door handle on their way, without washing their hands{#emotions_dlg.scared}

Since the comment was made by a man, my take is that this tidbit of information is something he read or was told, and he has chosen to be obsessive about it. I spent 27 years of my life working in a hospital, where frequent hand washing is drilled into your head from day one. I am a hand washer, as is my husband and my daughters. I always clean my hands in the car after I leave the grocery store, and I clean my hands in the car after I pump gas. When I see visible dirt and grime on an ATM keypad, I clean it with a wet wipe before I use it. I do use the pen in the doctors office, then use the pump sanitizer they have available, and wash my hands in the exam room. Because of my habits, I am rarely sick, and no one in my family was sick this winter----even my teacher daughter who has 18 students in her classroom, and spends 12-14 hours a day in a public school.

He was strange to discuss the fecal-ful pen with you, however, I caught a nasty cold once after using the UPS man's pen to sign for a package.{#emotions_dlg.scared} Pens are germ magnets.

How can you be so sure the cold germ came from the UPS man's pen? There are hundreds of ways to pick up germs during our everyday lives, and no one can be so sure where the germ came from.

My comments have nothing to do with people who have compromised immune systems.

Why do you always belittle people?

I know, yuk. I don't consider myself to be overly, obsessively cautious, but I do insist on grabbing the door handle with a paper towel, then promptly throwing it away and immediately using hand sanitizer. When public bathrooms have been tested, they said that the door handle leading out of the bathroom is the absolute worst; much worse than the toilet area itself.

i dont worry about these types of things, but i know a number of the people on these boards alone have a list of items they dont use or touch......

not picking up magazines in drs offices

always wearing slippers or shoes in a hotel room

bringing your own sheets/towels to hotels

never touching railings

only using a towel one time and then throwing it in to be washed

not touching shopping carts without wiping them down

not touching the doorknobs or faucets in a public bathroom

I don't take my own bed linens, but I do the rest of this. seems like common sense.

I'm not paranoid nor am I a germ-o-phobe, but I'm seriously grossed out after reading about the omni-present matter of fecal material. ugh

I haven't read all the responses yet, but I carry my own pen as well, most of the time.

I know we already touch door handles, grocery carts (I use those wipes provided) and the stylus on the credit card machine as well, but when I can, I just use my own pen. It is just one little step in perhaps not being exposed to an illness that someone else may have transferred to the pen. Maybe it is weird, but especially at the bank, with all that money handling, I'd just as soon use my own pen.

Non of these things seem unreasonable to me, if you are looking to avoid illnesses. And many of them I practice regularly.
