We pull out our pennies and put them in a small milk can. IT is now full to the brim, and we are going to have to do something with them or find another container to put them in.

I hang on to them for a couple of reasons.

One, it's money.

Two, I know there have to be some pennies in there that either are now worth something because of their dates or metal contents (they used to be made with much more copper than today's pennies), and metal prices vary up and down. AT some point the older ones may be of more value than a penny based solely on their metal content. As I've dumped pennies into the can, I've seen them going back to the early part of the last century and we have been saving them for a couple of decades (not every penny we get, as I do spend them to keep the wallet lighter, but when we accumulate more than we want to carry, we dump them in the can).

Three, if they are discontinued, they may become somewhat rare over time and have value as a collectible of sorts.

My DH saves pennies. I save quarters and dimes. He rolls them all. He gets the money from the pennies. I get the rest. Usually about 100.00. I like this deal.
