My neighbor across the street when I was growing up was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. I also have registered my dad at the WWII Memorial. He enlisted in 1942.

We always honor the ultimate sacrifice made that day and throughout that horrible war.  My father spent the war involved with the physical training of new pilots.  His brother and brother-in-law fought in the Far East.

My mother traveled to where my dad was stationed, far away from their New England home.  They were engaged earlier and decided Now was the time to marry, away from family and friends.  They liked to joke that they, the priest, and a couple they had met, were the only ones in the church.  I was born in a military hospital, along with many other “war babies.”

They had a long and happy marriage.

A day to remember real heroes. Bless them all for their sacrifice. We were so blessed to have such a great military.

I was five and remember my dad going in the service for four years.  I cry  when I see what is happening to our world today, the disrespect for all those that fought. For this country.

If anyone is interested, tune into the History Channel. Unbelievable and horrific.

As a child, I visited Pearl Harbor.  What a beautiful serene place.  Hard to imagine what happened there that terrible Sunday morning.  Over a thousand men buried at sea in the USS Arizona.  It's an incredible monument and rememberance of their ultimate sacrifice.

I was surprised it wasn't mentioned on The Today Show. I guess they were too busy with Times person of the year.
