I should have bought a lottery ticket.
My new place to fill my gas tank and not too far from me.
Norther Westchester County, NY
Wow! I can't imagine a gas station attendant pumping gas during very cold weather ... or a snowstorm!
If this is new, I doubt it will last.
New Jersey did it, Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall and I believe they still do and even in the rain and they also did your windshield.

@Mz iMac I just wrote about New Jersey spoiling me. Glad it's still been done.

My salon owner told me before they started. A lot will use checks, yep, she had some bounced checks. I asked her why she just didn't raise prices 3% she said because they get their commission, so it still wouldn't cover her cc fee. So I pay cash. Once I forgot and had to charge it. It's ok. At least she gave customers notice.
I've seen restaurants do it, well, when you get the check you have a choice of the two prices. Cash price or card price. I've not been to a place that refused cash. YET.
I got some new flooring recently. No fee.

We don't use credit cards but occasionally I'll run into a merchant that charges me for using my debit card. One of them is my hairdresser so I just started writing her a check and I give her cash for her tip.

@Caffeina. Must be a state regulation because they're sure doing it here.

Not a state law. It's their policy and it's mentioned on both of their websites.
Well, it might be policy somewhere, but some merchants and services are charging fees for using debit cards here.
there is an easy way around that so that the business can still charge a fee to use a card. the business doesnt HAVE to accept it as a debit card. they can process it like a credit card and then the fees can be applied.

I know, hard to believe! And in NY! I did question him (more like interrogate). He's been working there for 2 years and only pumps gas. So for now, I'll take it.
I hated pumping gas. I had to learn how to do it when I moved to DE. Ugh.

When I first read that, I wondered how they could possibly get that bill passed into law. Weren't people insulted? It's not that difficult to learn how to use a gas tank nozzle and open your gas cap.
People aren't stupid. Weren't the men in NJ indignant?
Or was this a situation where NJ never allowed self-service gas pumps so voters never got a chance to voice their opinions?
If you live in NJ, I'm sorry to be asking here, but having lived in NY and CA all my life, this just seems a little ... bizarre.
Honestly, no offense.

Oregon doesn't allow you to pump your gas. I thought it might be a way to offer jobs to people. 🤷‍♀️
