Some businesses take advantage of the economy.  I believe the business should absorb the cost of using credit cards.

If I encounter a fee for a credit card, I either pay cash/check or more often take my business elsewhere.

My nail salon raised their prices as well as now having a credit card fee.  Ridiculous, in my opinion.  It's easy where I live to find another business that doesn't do this.  They need customers more than I need someone to do my nails.

I don't like scanning groceries, so I don't.  Won't shop at WM because of this.  There's a large chain grocery store that has about 15 registers and 15 cashiers.  There's no waiting in line and a great place to shop.

If some product costs $100 and after CC fee they get $97, and multiply that times a hundred, it can certainly add up.

Perhaps the business should raise their cost of that item to $103 and have no CC charge?

At least they're being open about it.

Wow!   I can't imagine a gas station attendant pumping gas during very cold weather ... or a snowstorm!

If this is new, I doubt it will last.

Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

I haven't read any posts yet.

I always remember to ask dental office(s) if they have to pay a fee when accepting credit card payments.

They usually say 'Yes', so I write a check.

Even though they tell me either check or credit card are perfectly fine with them.

They don't increasethe price of payment-bill just because a credit card is used.

Well, that's about it.  Have a nice weekend !

Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

Have seen this last few years, especially restaurants. Have learned to check fine print on menu or ask.  Was surprised, however, when car repair shop charged three percent fee for charge. On a $1,000 repair, that's hefty.  So next time I will stop at bank first.  I have not carried much cash in years, but learning to be prepared.

Another thing I have noticed lately is that some restaurants of various price ranges, are automatically adding a 20% tip on the bill, no matter how many people you are, even if you are a party of one.  I have come across that when you had six and over in your party, but never for less people.   It is printed at the bottom of the receipt, so technically you don't find this out till you get your bill, which of course is at the end of your meal.

While I have no problem tipping that amount, if not more, I don't care for it automatically on there.  And my reasoning is, the servers don't have any incentive as they know what they are at least guaranteed.  And unfortunately, my last dining experience proved me right.  Service was basically non existent.  We got our food and anything else was as if we were in a Seinfeld episode.  (If you know, you know).  I realize they don't want to get stiffed by some non-tippers, but service was less than.  🍽

@SloopJohnB  here in Georgia at some restaurants it's 18%. We usually tip 20% but they ask for 18% so that's what they get. A week ago the family went out to celebrate a birthday. That person gets to choose the restaurant. When the bill came the tip was $240 and change. If it was left up to us, it would have been more. The service was fantastic.

@Caffeina.  Must be a state regulation because they're sure doing it here.

Not a state law. It's their policy and it's mentioned on both of their websites.

Well, it might be policy somewhere, but some merchants and services are charging fees for using debit cards here.

As long as there is a fee, if the Debit Card has the Visa or Mastercard Logo, the fee is added.

I always use my Visa Debit Card as a Credit card especially at Walmart because I don't want to use my pin. Of course big Merchants don't charge a fee.

@roeroe1005  when I read about someone pumping your gas, I said New Jersey. Didn't know it's done in Westchester County also. New Jersey spoiled me. When I moved to Fl, I pulled up, and stayed in my car waiting for some one to pump my gas.

I was wondering why people were pumping there own gas so after a while I got out and had to figure out how to do it. It was embarrassing lol.

@Caffiena, just early last year I used my Debit Visa Card to pay for a storage unit. When I realized I was paying $3.50 a month to use it, I bought some checks from Chase (3 for a dollar) and paid by check. Didcost me postage because the office was right around the corner.

Is yours one of those prepaid debit cards? Some of them do have their own fees. Mine is issued through my credit union without fees.

@Caffeina  mine is a Visa Debit Card from Chase.
