The Passport Card can only be used "internationally" for Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the United States. You can only use the Card if you are travelling by car, boat. You can not fly into Canada, say from, NJ with the card. You need the passport booklet.

Just to be clear anytime you leave the US you are travelling "internationally" even if it's just to Canada.

@i do believe that @crazered is correct as to what she is specifically talking about. the passport card can be used for travel within the usa. they will be requiring a valid STAR id/REAL id or a passport booklet/card for travel within the usa next year, i believe.

Both are correct

A passport card is the same size as a driver's license, and can be used to travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean by land or sea. It can also be used inside the United States as an official identification for any purpose, as well as a proof of US citizenship.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm responding to the notion that all you need is the card to fly into Canada. You can't do that @sunshine45

@crazeredstated that in her post. it is a good card to have if your state is not REALid compliant when you are traveling in the usa.

Here she did not distinguish the use for ID purposes. "She says good for air." That's why I wrote what I did. (See above).

For now, a Driver's license or other official identification is still good for travel within the US. A travel card is not needed unless you just want to have it.

My State is "Real ID compliant" and I travel within the US with my driver's license. I have no problems, @sunshine45. Until this is a mandate for all States (which is how it would be done) then there's no need to worry about "Real ID."
