I just know that there is a legal issue and a moral issue.
That's all.
*the police were notified before the video was being made, the Ranger himself had called them. The ranger chose not to fight back --he feared repercussions on the job supposedly.
What a wonderful world we live in when a park ranger or police officer are going to be worried about their job security if they defend themselves.

That is the information released on the noon news today.
Where? Because I live here and no such info has been given, factually.

That is so sad that he was afraid to lose his job over being able to defend himself...

If you stand by watching this Park Ranger being beaten, and you are part of that group, then the other 2 had a duty to stop the attack. Filming and laughing goes beyond a moral issue - they failed to stop the attack and instead thought it was a real lark.
You don't have to participate to be arrested as an accomplice.
This story is sickening.
All over these punks refusing to obey the Park Ranger.

ITA it is unacceptable that a park ranger or police officer are going to be worried about their job security if they defend themselves.

I don't see police officers being afraid to defend themselves. On the contrary, they seem to do quite well with defending themselves.
Only recently there have been stories about a police officer beating a woman by the side of the freeway, another one about cops fatally choking a man, and a cop brutally pushing a man in a wheelchair.
It happens both ways.
Btw, I come from a family of law enforcement and military personnel. I have nothing but respect for people in these professions. But let's not forget that everyone is human, and brutality exists across the board.
ETA: Just because someone is a cop or an authority figure does not make them superhuman, or mean that they have superior judgement.

I agree with you. He may have felt outnumbered and had already called for help.
Just look at the way the police have been treating the PRESS in MO. - with their cameras running! They don't seem the least bit shy about defending themselves.

According to the Philadelphia Police, the unidentified 35-year-old ranger saw several young men skateboarding in the city's Love Park on Friday evening. The station reports the ranger used his radio to call his supervisor and then approached the men to tell them they weren't allowed to skate in the park. One young man allegedly refused to leave and began swearing and threatening the ranger.
Video of the incident shows the young man wrestling the ranger to the ground, according to CBS Philly. The assailant stomps on the ranger and repeatedly kicking him in the head. He also appears to spit on him."
How awful.
