For every officer accused of excessive force there are thousands upon thousands of outstanding officers who put their lives on the line every day for the public. They have families, pay taxes, go to church and love their community just like you and me. Get educated about what it really takes to be a LEO please. Go on a ride along, stop by your neighborhood station or talk to an officer you pass on the street and make a feeble attempt to get to know them at least for the moment and see these men and women as human.

I feel bad for the good ones, when the bad ones give them a bad name..

Only recently there have been stories about a police officer beating a woman by the side of the freeway, another one about cops fatally choking a man, and a cop brutally pushing a man in a wheelchair.
It happens both ways.
I agree with you. He may have felt outnumbered and had already called for help.
Just look at the way the police have been treating the PRESS in MO. - with their cameras running! They don't seem the least bit shy about defending themselves.

I just know that there is a legal issue and a moral issue.
That's all.
*the police were notified before the video was being made, the Ranger himself had called them. The ranger chose not to fight back --he feared repercussions on the job supposedly.
What a wonderful world we live in when a park ranger or police officer are going to be worried about their job security if they defend themselves.
My DH was a Chicago police officer for 30 years. For a while he was in the tactical unit (plain clothes). It was 10:00 p.m. and he and his partner were driving by a clothing store when they spotted an African-American male with a Tech-9 (semi-automatic weapon) herding 5 employees into a storeroom. They entered the store and long story short - the robber fired at DHs partner, missing. DH drew his weapon and shot the robber hitting him inn the lower back. When all the powers to be and bosses came by, they asked DH if he was okay, etc. All DH said was, "am I going to lose my job and will I be criminally charged"? It all worked out well and he and his partner got a huge commendation.
That is the mindset of law enforcement today. They worry about being sued, getting killed or their families getting threatened. Instead of being proactive they are reactive. Things have got to change. Killings in Chicago are an everyday occurrence. Sad but true.
