It was the grandfather's fault, pure and simple.  Tragic, but true.  I did hear the other day that they were investigating whether or not the grandfather had been drinking.  I had never heard that brought up before.

@Johnnyeager  Actually I was referring to a post upthread by another poster who thought the step-grandparent angle was the most interesting because since he is "not blood" he is still forgiven by the family.

It really has nothing to do with forgiveness; I don't know anything about the bio-grandfather but it wouldn't make any difference.

This grandfather, to me, is the grandfather, blood or no blood. 

We may not know everything but the fact that he could take care of her by himself speaks to his love of the child, being trusted by the parents, and his inclusion as a grandparent, blood or no blood.
