This was a horrific death, and just so sad. But money won’t bring the little girl back. It was a mistake- a case of human error on the grandfather’s part. Blaming someone else is ridiculous.
I also wish people who serve on juries regarding cases like this would understand, if they don’t already, that monetary settlements in cases like this are the reason our insurance rates keep climbing. Insurance companies are in the business to make money. When they take a hit by having to pay a huge amount for this type of thing, they simply pass the cost on to the rest of us through increased premiums. I don’t know about you, but I had nothing to do with this grandfather’s mistake and I don’t want to pay $ because he made a human error.
Sadly the cruise line will probably settle out of court because jurors often fall prey to human emotion instead of simply looking at this as the accident it really was.
Exactly. Insurance rates will go up. Cruise prices will go up. So innocent people get to pay - and the family gets a payout. Yes, I know they lost their child - through their own fault in my view - and I don't think they deserve to cash in at the expense of others for their grief.
@Isobel Archer I can't believe your callous post. Do you really think the family is looking for a payout? They don't deserve cash at the expense of others??? This family lost a child, and there is no amount of money that will change that, or make it bearable. This grandfather, and the rest of the family has already been given a life sentence. He has to live everyday knowing the choice he made resulted in her death. All will have to find a way to go on without her. There are no winners here.

@manny2 If they weren't looking for a cash payout, they wouldn't be suing in the first place AND for millions of dollars.
@Lipstickdiva Understand. Thank you. : )

So then why are they suing if not to get a cash settlement? Please spare me the - they deserve to be compensated for their loss. No they don't. Innocent people who would then have to pay higher insurance rates and higher cruise fees did not cause this problem.
I didn't say anything about punishing the grandfather - but I don't get punishing other people either.
I am sorry for their loss, but as to "assuring it doesn't happen to someone else" - again please - a lawsuit has nothing to do with assuring that people don't act negligently (and I am not talking about the cruise ship).

It might be part of a defense plan to deflect responsibility , and put it on the cruise line

Does this mean the lawsuit against the cruise line will be dismissed?

Where did it say he was convicted?
@sidsmom Huh? It doesn't anywhere. I said just because he is charged doesn't mean he will be convicted.
Not so much on this thread but in a FB group I belong to, people are losing their minds over the fact that charges were brought against him.
@Lipstickdiva Why is that? Is it the "who" that has brought charges or charges overall because they don't believe he did anything wrong?
@SahmIammost of the people feel that the grandfather has to live with what he did the rest of his life and that is punishment enough. There was a lot of "how do you bring charges against this poor grandfather?"
I think this is the correct way to handle this situation....he is lying about putting her up on the railing...rather blaming the cruise ship for his own failure to use safe judgement while the toddler was in his care. Plus they are suing the Cruise Line for millions....again not taking responsibility for your own actions has brought this ALL on. He should confess the TRUTH.

"The reporting of this by the media has been so shoddy and sloppy..."
I don't see any evidence of that that...odd how one would think that.
