When the slimmest of models wear pants that seem very tight on them, I almost always size up.
In stores, I don't pay any attention to the tag size. I just hold up the pants/jeans and take a look. If the waist looks very small, I size up one or two sizes.
Also, a relaxed fit comes in handy when I happen to leave them in the dryer too long.

I have a mini TAPE MEASURE attached to my key ring...

I don't currently buy any pants because of weight gain! I just can't do it! I don't even want to know what size I would have to buy because I would just be too depressed!
Are you at a weight and size that you are satisifed with? If so, then if I were in a store and I liked a pair of pants and they were too snug, then, yes, I would go up a size.
Stores and brands vary so much in their sizing. A person might wear a size 6 in one brand at one store and then have to go up to a size 8 or 10 in another.

Of course I would size up....depending on the brand the cut is different. Nothing is worse that jeans that are two tight in the crotch and pulling across the thighs.

@ROMARY I agree that the style makes a difference. Waistline or below waistline. I find the Girlfriend cut to be the most comfortable and I bought all the NYDJ in that style on sale I could find. More relaxed. I want comfort working and moving as no longer in the workplace. Some brands are cut differently.

To be honest I would not size up but would not buy either. I would say girl get it together and get back down. When my Pants start getting tight then I know I have overdone.
I don't feel like I am being vane just realistic. At the moment I am on a eat healthy kick and needed to get back to who I am. I was letting my snacking get to me when I was bored or down in the dumps. That isn't who I am either but with loss came that. So back in the saddle and dropped the 10 that I gained. For me 10 lbs makes a big difference in pants because always around the middle on me. I walk everyday as well but always have done that.
My husband use to tease me when I said I needed to cut back and eat better. I would say I have 10 lbs to drop and he would say where and is this the same 10 lbs you have been talking about for years. 😝 I would say no this is new.

Find another style of pant that runs bigger. Or just be a grownup who buys what fits.

Well, if a person has body image/vanity issues on clothing size, sounds like a personal problem. Therapy might help.
In the grand scheme of life and death, the size label in clothing is of little importance.

Nah--all that BS about sizing up or down to fit in pants--is crazy. . Good grief, to wear comfy pants no matter what size--is so much better feeling and looking, than looking like you SHOULD have sized up or down in my book. so what?? You pay tons of $$ for these things--you should be comfy in them. and besides, there are no sizes that are the same among brands or stores. but maybe you like to feel miserable--then go for it---am not vain anymore about sizes--what fits, I buy!!!

Sizing varies so much from brand to brand. I would wear whatever fits me best because it looks best.
