Re: Panic is building at Costco

The way I look at these types of situations, and I don't mean this to be a holier than thou lecture. That's not me.

I used to get so stressed out about smaller things. But the bigger things in my life over the last four years have been incredibly difficult and continue to be. If you're stressed out and angry in a line you might miss a small interaction with a stranger that could make your day. The people in my life who weren't supposed to have let me down and continue to. They're not there for me at all. But the kindness of strangers never has, not once in those four years. It often was all that got me through a day, and that's still the case.

Yesterday I was in a grocery store that I used to go in all the time with my Mom. Holding back my tears I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I'd give anything to be going in there with her again. Same for Costco, we loved going in there together. Don't see myself ever going into one again.

Everyone needs to learn patience this time of year.  I hope that lady isn't shopping anywhere on friday.  LOL

I wish more Costco locations had a Self Scan.  Our local Sams changed almost all lanes to self scan.  I can use that wand and breeze through the checkout process.

I love the Sam's Club Scan & Go app.  You scan the items with your phone as you put them into your cart, then when you are done press checkout (a credit card is attached to the app).  Then when you get to the door, show them the bar code on your phone, the door attendant scans it, and you are done, no checkout lines.  Don't know if Costco has it, but I love it.

@Ms tyrion2  We don't have self checkouts at Costco so I don't know for sure, but maybe you can't even buy wine at the self checkout.  Or I guess someone has to come over to verify your age.  You'll be getting looks from the people behind you Smiley Happy

You can buy wine. The last time I did, there was a person there to check ID in seconds.

We can't buy any alcohol at self checkouts here in CA. It must be purchased face-to-face from a store employee. Then again, our Costco doesn't have a self checkout line (yet) anyway!

I was at Costco yesterday afternoon and it wasn't bad (fairly short lines). I did the rest of my shopping this morning at Safeway and Savemart, and it was pretty smooth and easy at both places.

Re: Panic is building at Costco

Being old, I did my last run Sunday night.  And it was at a regular grocery store, not a discount club.  Having seen these mob scenes before, I avoid at all cost ($$$$$).  I can get everything either well before or at a grocery store and/or CVS.

I'm just not up to waiting any more.  If I don't have it Sunday night, we aren't going to have it.

Why would self checkouts be faster? Cashiers are quick, know how to handle a problem and have a side kick to load up all the scanned stuff and move you OUT!

They are efficient.  The 75 year old at the self scan or the mom with 3 kids hanging off her - not so much

@millieshops - I personally would go either later tonight or first thing in the morning.

Re: Panic is building at Costco

Self check outs are great, especially for those people who don't have a lot of items. Cashiers may be quick but it's not they're like performing brain surgery. It's zip by the scanner and into a bag whether by the cashier or the shopper.

Cashiers also don't always have someone bagging the groceries which means either I do it or wait until the scanning is over and wait for them to do it. The payment process time is the same regardless of which way you go so no time lost or gained there.

It's made all the difference at the Sam's where I shop. No more waiting behind people with full carts with my (generally speaking) ten items or less. I can honestly say that I've never once been behind a 75 yr old with three kids hanging off her, but if it happens, all I can say is may the force be with her! Smiley Very Happy

ah yes our wonderful liquor laws,  I think the Wayne store has liquor , state has a limit of 2 stores per chain..

@jackthebear. Yup, the wonderful liquor laws! Now I am in NY right over the border and have almost the same laws. Can't get away from them.

we shop in the Nauet Costco all the time

there is a movement trying to reform the liquor laws,  though

I hate self-checkouts,  if there is a problem with a price it's 3 x as long to resolve b/c there is no one there to help

Re: Panic is building at Costco

Drove past Costco yesterday afternoon. Massive traffic congestion in the roads going in and out of Costco.
