If I may ask you both, were/are the PCPs gerontologists?

kdgn, a big SNAFU to say the least. The nurse simply overlooked the home meds. Depending on the year this happened, nurses are also required to complete a medication reconciliation form of some kind. But if they did nothing to order her meds, that wouldn't help one bit.

Sounds like the nurse just totally forgot and then tried to make something up.

Gato, mom's PCP was not a gerontologist. He had been her doctor for over 15 years though and knew her well. Now I see that her HMO has at least two gerontologists on staff. Unfortunately neither of them see patients in the nursing home!!!

Gato, mom's PCP was not a gerontologist. He had been her doctor for over 15 years though and knew her well. Now I see that her HMO has at least two gerontologists on staff. Unfortunately neither of them see patients in the nursing home!!!

Thanks for the reply kdgn. Do physicians normally visit their patients while in nursing homes? I remember when my mother was in rehab after a fall she had very rare visits from a doctor who went from facility to facility seeing patients. Frankly he was horrible and only spent a couple of very confusing frenetic minutes with each person.
