Re: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

It goes both ways.

There are a lot of grumpy store clerks behind the registers and lots of people that think you were hired as their personal doorman, so no thanks necessary for holding the door for them.....

Re: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

I agree it goes both ways. I was in a gas station this week and the clerk was wiping down the front of the counter ,like she needed to finish cleaning before she spoke to me. The car wash was being serviced anyway and down , which is what I came in for. I left miffed to say the least.

I had another sales associate at the Express Lane demand I move my items to her so she did not have to reach for them. Just ask me nicely. I have avoided ever going through her line since.

I love shopping in locally owned and operated stores.  Christmas and Hanukkah are probably the worst times to be placing orders that require shipping.  Anything and everything from sold out items to weather delays are possible.  Even though I can't stand the early Christmas programming, it does have the advantage of receiving the ordered items.  Besides, other than hurricanes, there generally aren't any weather delays in mid summer and early fall.

Re: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

@BirkiLady   Thank you for the timely reminder.

I believe it is nice to be nice, but I'm human like everone else, and this time of year--for me anyway--between cold weather, higher fuel bills, and the crush of the holiday "to do" list can get me a little down, or cross, so I appreciate your thoughts so I can be certain to keep my attitude adjustment meter set to the "patience and kind presence with others" end of the dial.

Re: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Having worked in a store in the past I now try to be the cashiers nicest customer of the day.

If you've never had to work with the public you really have no idea how unpleasant and sometimes downright nasty people can be. Every day you'd think you couldn't be any more shocked by people until of course the next day.

Yes! I just made a similar comment on another thread, but you stated it so well, @BirkiLady. My daughter is working retail this holiday season, and it's a crazy time of year for everyone!

Sorry but I kind-of not like being told how to act while shopping. I am always kind and friendly and not just around the holidays! I live rural and when we go shopping everyone is very, very kind! They know me by name!  All I heard this past Saturday while shopping locally (Small Business Saturday btw) were very gracious shoppers being kind and considerate to each other, as they always are.

The message wasn't personally addressed to you, it was simply a reminder that ALL people be treated with respect.  Tempers get short during the holiday seasons, congratulations for being so well liked where you shop.

Please remember to be kind and considerate while shopping. The salespeople and customer service associates work long hours. They often encounter frustrated customers with short tempers. Try to be a bright spot in their day!

Smile. Be kind. Remember your manners with "Please" and "Thank You" in a sincere and gracious voice.

Hold the door for other shoppers. Help someone reach items off higher shelves. The more we help others, the better our shopping experiences will be. Perhaps everyone will begin shopping friendly year-round.

Thanks for reading. Your cooperation is appreciated (in stores and on-line).

Re: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Great words of advice.  Also remember many retail stores hire people just for the holiday season.  You may be encountering an employee who is also new and learning as well.
