From what I can tell, he and the Queen Mum had some knock out fights about the issue, he would have had to abdicate.
Well, that still would have taken some balls.
And a certain integrity.
There Is considered to be much more behind the abdication of the throne by the Duke of Windsor. Historians have long explored indications that the real reason the British Government wanted the Duke out of their way and NOT on the throne had more to do with his N az i sympathsizings. Simpson of course was blamed by some for influencing him. She was always resented by the British public.
In those days the king was the head of the church of England and the church did not allow a monarch to marry a divorcee with a living spouse. Simpson had two living spouses. At that time I do not believe they were traveling or sympathizing with Germans. It was after their marriage that this was talked about.

I don't really keep up with news on the Royals but I never really thought much of Charles because I think he used Diana. She was much younger and perhaps really thought he loved her but I always felt he knew the rules of the game and played it from the very start while she was fooled for a while.
She made decisions that didn't seem smart, will say that. But in the beginning I think she fell for the fairy tale.

I think Charles thought he reallyreally wanted Camilla (the want and idealize what you can't have thing). Then he got her and ewww. I suspect he's pretty sorry now and so is the entire Royal family.
I think William & Harry were pretty estranged from Charles until Diana's death. After her death I think Charles (who had a terrible example of fatherhood in his own father) made a great effort to repair the damage and has genuinely tried since then to be a real father. I think he'll be able to enjoy his grandchildren more than he probably ever imagined.
Charles isn't an intellectual, and he has been handicapped by his own upbringing. He'll never be someone I like, but I don't think it's all his fault and I give him credit for trying.
I think you are wrong about William and Harry ever being estranged from their father. I believe they were with their father when Diana died and spent much time with the HRH when Diane traveled and was having her affairs.

yes, after he had abdicated the throne and they were married. It was not the reason of his abdication like the OP stated. There were many figure heads from England that tried to avert war by meeting with Hitler. Doesn't mean they actually sympathized with them.

Well, it's all conjecture and educated guesses for everyone unless we have a contact in the RF. That's just my take on it.

moonchilde, I scrolled back to read the messages I missed while I was preparing my post on this and found that you referred to it as a game, just like I did.

What is the date? I believe it to be before the war, before the atrocities. Hitler was head of Germany and many people met with him to avert war.

The House of Windsor changed it's name in 1917 so they would not appear to be German sympathizers. The whole family had a close relationship to Germany. Edward didn't meet with Hitler to avert war.

I don't think being German sympathizers was the reason. It is because they were German. lol
