@jackthebear  In Maryland, we are able to schedule an appointment on line. Back when I got my RealID, the line for those with appointments amounted to about 6 or less.  The regular line seemed to go on forever.  So thankful that I made an appointment.

wow

last time renewed it was about 3 hours I will never get back, then finally get to the picture area, and wham the dude in front didn't answer a question correctly, so all the good little soldiers had to wait even longer

Re: POLL: Real ID⭐️

[ Edited ]

I live in New York. I made an appointment when DH & I renewed & upgraded to a Real ID. We were in & out in under 20 minutes.

The license is good for 8 years. We were also told that we can renew online or through the mail as long as we have proof of having passed the eye exam.

There is no reason why NJ shouldn't have it already due to the fact that we have to prove who the h3!! we are every 4 years in order to renew it.

Ever since the Homeland Security went into effect we need to show up at DMV with 6 points of ID every time we need to renew our license. At some point you do get a one time pass and can renew by mail then next time you're right back to showing up with all the paperwork.

Let's not forget to bring not only breakfast but, lunch & dinner plus a sleeping bag along w/your 6 points of ID.   Cause you will be there a looooooooooooong time standing OUTSIDE in a long line.  At least you will be entertained by the ARMED state troopers controlling the folks who do NOT have their 6 points & being escorted outside and/or into the paddy wagons which are lined up in the parking lot. Smiley LOL

I have a passport.  Yet I still need to show up w/my SS card, birth certificate w/the RAISED seal, bills to prove address, etc.

NJ has NOT started issuing Real ID's yet.

We have a new technology advanced fancy DMV..recommended by friends. .....I camped out (well got there about an hour before it opened)...Even the line was automated  ....and there were lots of employees ready to serve...moved pretty quickly....got out of there in no time....

Now one of my friends went later in the day to an old fashion set up and she was there for about 4 hours....ARRRGGGHHH!!!!

I have had the enhanced license for years so I don't need the Real ID.  My DH just got his.  He said it only took 20 minutes and he was out.

got ours to be on safe side and to avoid the stampede that will happen next yr.

No. It's on my list of things to do in the first half of 2020.

From reading some of the responses, it sounds like there is a certain Federal standard for identification and beyond that, perhaps it varies state to state.

My state sent out notices with our license plate renewals about the requirements: about three different categories and a list of acceptable documents in each category.  I think we needed two in each category (proof of citizenship and address) and a Social Security card or tax return.  And I had to bring my marriage license, as well.  I found it odd that one of the accepted documents was a Social Security card, since for years it was printed right on them they were not to be used for identification.

I live in a very small town and can always breeze through the MVD because they're rather nonchalant about a lot of this type of thing.  I was rather surprised that not only did they require all the documentation, but the woman also took all my documents and made a copy of each to keep in their files.

It cost twice as much as our regular state drivers' licenses but it's good for twice as long.  And we won't have to bring all that documentation to renew.

Yes--Nevada.  I gathered up my passport and all the other paperwork they wanted (birth certificate, SS card, marriage license, ect.) and dragged myself to the DMV.  When I got to the window, the clerk said if I have a passport and my old drivers license, that was all they needed.  Wasted a lot of time gathering up all that stuff!

Along with my old driver's license, I needed both official birth certificate and passport, two proofs of address, marriage license, and Social Security card or tax return.  And she looked at each and every document before she copied them.  It wasn't a hassle, though, only because I had everything required.
