Re: PLEASE SHARE YOUR ACCENT

Accent, what accent?  Born and brought up in Boston and we think others have an accent.  It's just wicked crazy to think we do! LOL

@PhilaLady1  "Anyways" and "alls" is not too lost on me, though I hardly ever say it that way.

I was born & raised in the suburbs, went to school & taught in the city, moved away for a while, then moved back.

But I agree that this lingo is generational.

So that extra S on the end is a Philadelphia area local thing. Ha!  I did not know that.  Thanks!

@Tori3569  Gum bands are rubber bands.

I have no earthly idea why we call them "gum" but there you go.

Bostonians call them elastics.

We do too here in CT. Elastics or Elastic bands.

@MershaSo if I asked you how to get to Sliberty you would say--  You can't get there from here.

Re: PLEASE SHARE YOUR ACCENT

I guess I have Inland Northern as that is where I was born and lived the first 25 years of my life.  I now live in Sourthren Coastal but don't have that accent.  Fun!

@JillyMarie  The more you are able to abbreviate and slur words the better your Pittsburghese is.

Did you grow up there too?

@gizmogal  My DIL's family grew up in Brooklyn.

The thing I notice them doing is on words that end in "a," they pronounce them "er."

Ida is Ider

Donna is Donner

Brenda is Brender

Do most people do that or are they unique?

Re: PLEASE SHARE YOUR ACCENT

I grew up in a small town where everyone pronounced Lincoln Continental with no "t" sounds.

I've always enjoyed the different pronunciations of

Newark DE NEW ark

Newark NJ  NEW wurk

Newark O    NURK
