Re: PA Residents Crossing State Lines For Booze.

@Laura14  The one guy in Ohio said normally they well PA residents at liquor stores but not during this outbreak. These people do not work in Ohio or W. Virginia.

They check licenses.  You need an Ohio driver's license or military ID.

PA is under a stay at home order and evidently these people are going solely to the liquor stores.

I am just stating what I read.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I think it's ridiculous.  Let the shop make a sale.  Let an adult have a drink.  I wonder if people would be so judgemental if this had happened earlier and we were all expected to have a dry Christmas and New Year's?

Re: PA Residents Crossing State Lines For Booze.

@Laura14  Again, It's just what I read.  The article was on CNN online and it lists the 6 counties in Ohio and the 3 in W.Virginia.

You are free to contact the counties and tell them it's ridiculous.

Personally, I don't care who drinks what, but the states are having enough problems with illness let alone others from an state possibly adding to it.

You can still get beer, wine and order the hard stuff online in PA. It's not like it's  a dry state.

Don't know why you're taking my comments personally @CrazyKittyLvr2 .  I'm just commenting on this topic not your opinion.

I am well aware of how PA works having been an adult resident myself.

Re: PA Residents Crossing State Lines For Booze.

The State of Delaware has asked out-of-staters to stay away (but it's okay if you're just passing through on an interstate).  The Total Wine & More store in Claymont, DE, is close to the PA border and was seeing a lot of PA customers.  A week or so ago, Delaware starting posting state troopers at the entrances to the store; they questioned drivers with out-of-state license plates.  The drivers were turned away; I don't believe tickets were issued.

It's long been illegal to bring alcohol from out-of-state to PA, so PA residents should know better.  Now, the practice is somewhat more egregious since Delaware is also discouraging it.

As a resident of WV, but not in any of the counties that border PA, I heard that they were stopping sales to out of state residents. You are correct in that these people are traveling here to buy alcohol only. The majority do not work in the state, therefore I can’t blame the PTB for stopping this.

There is a nursing home in one of those counties that has been hit hard. I’m thinking that over 25 residents and staff have tested positive, and I’m not sure how many of those have passed away. 😢😢.

Maybe walls should be built!🤪

A few weeks ago, during a press conference, my governor was asked if out of staters should be banned from visiting, and he said no.  That would be unconstitutional.

New England states are small.  I live close to a border and cross it often, and the residents from that state cross into my state, too.  Fortunately, we're all ok with this.

Who knew?

In addition, I am a PA resident who, on occasion, does drive to Claymont, DE to purchase liquor.  There is no tax in DE and they have a much better selection at the Total Wine.

I understand Gov. Wolf not wanting to lose control of the liquor tax so he doesn't allow grocery stores to sell liquor.  They can only sell wine and beer. However, during this shelter-in-place period, he has closed the liquor stores and set up online ordering.  On-line ordering is done in waves, so it could be days before it is opened up in certain areas and then only for a certain amount of time.

I can't even imagine the taxes being lost now!  I have no idea why the liquor stores are not open.  If grocery stores can be open, why not liquor stores?  There could be a limit on how many people can be in the store at one time and it could be mandatory to wear masks and gloves to enter.

I have no idea if the employees are still getting paid.  I would suspect not, but I don't know for sure.

I think Gov.Wolf needs to revisit his mandate and open up the liquor stores with restrictions.  Therefore, people would not be driving to other states to purchase alcohol and the tax money would again go into the PA Treasury which so desperately needs it.

Hellodall - My son lives also lives in PA.  He's suppose to get married this fall🙏

My husband wanted to order vitamins from the Vitamin Shoppe for my son to pick there,  but they are closed.

You would think that kind of store would be open.
