Re: Over-Used Phrases That Make Me Scream!

One of the hosts with her "I just want to CALL OUT that .... "

Ugh.  Where I come from, CALL OUT means that you were chastised for something.  "She got called out for wearing jeans to work."  "He was called out for telling a lie about his boss."

It seems that she uses it because it contains more syllables and uses more time.  It's all about filling time, I suppose.  Smiley Happy  Instead of just saying "This is made in Italy," she can increase the length of her sentence a few more seconds by stretching it out and adding words like "I just want to call out that this is made in Italy."  "I have to call out that we only brought in 5000 of these."

If I took a sip of wine every time she said "I just want to call out...." I would be drunk in 15 minutes.  Smiley Happy

Re: Over-Used Phrases That Make Me Scream!

Reading thru this thread got me thinking as to how far back I could remember the use of overused phrases.

My paternal grandmother used to say in response to something surprising or unbelievable,  “Well I hope I die”, or “I swear to my soul”.

My maternal grandmother always thanked us by saying “thank you till you’re better paid”, and “gag on a gnat, swallow a camel”.

Aside from the word I won't mention, and it's not a swear word, tired of everything being ELEVATED

Also, the phrase "I would argue that".........one female host says that quite often.

Also SIDEBAR......another female host loves that one. Same one who uses CALL OUT
