Re: Over 50's - Do You Still Cry?

expat - I'm within this age group and you are right -- I seldom cry and I don't get my feelings hurt often and sometimes I don't care if people like me or not. I have good intentions and I'm a fair person so it's their problem. It's like I have plexi glass protecting my emotions. Maybe we know worry and angst aren't good for us. My main concern is the people closest to me and I will cry when they are hurting.

I am a crier and kind of wish it would stop at some point. I notice most elderly people (80s-90s) don't seem to show a lot of emotion, so I do wonder if you become more immune to this stuff as you get older.

I think you're right here. I've noticed it before, when my mom was still here and had plenty of reason to break down. She was strong, and maybe did in private. Now with my dad, he didn't cry at times I would have thought he would and I did. So yeah, in their 80's it more about acceptance of just what is, is, and no emotions. I so agree.

No matter what phase or age I am at- I cry like a baby! Commercials make me cry! Sad or happy moments bring tears. I own it - and I don't think I will ever change! My career is taking care of families and children - and I have never become cynical! I was born to take care of others and solve problems. I am very blessed - without a doubt!!

Re: Over 50's - Do You Still Cry?

Once my beloved dh died in 1999 at age 34 (I was just 46), nothing but nothing is worth crying over now except missing him. So, yes, I do still cry (I'm now 61), but only when I'm thinking of and missing him. Nothing else matters.

I am having a problem with my eyes and my ophthalmologist told me our eyes DO get a lot drier as we age, tears become less plentiful, and (jokingly or maybe only half jokingly) told me to go to more sad movies!!!!!!

I just lost a dear friend in June and yes, I still cry at the age of 64.

Re: Over 50's - Do You Still Cry?

I've always been very emotional, but I think I cry even more now than I did when I was younger. Much more easily too. It's the way I've always been, and although my kids laugh & roll their eyes, I know it's just part of who I am. (They know that, too!)

It's usually not crying from sadness, though. It's from feeling blessed, seeing people I haven't seen in awhile, attending milestone events, and things like that. Although reminiscing about the past and loved ones who have passed away certainly makes me cry too. It's all pretty bittersweet at this point.

All I have to do is put on the world news look at a St Jude's and abused animal commercials and I have not yet stopped crying since my father passed away. Yes, I cry.

"Tears are words the heart can't express." I think there is some truth to that quote. And, yes, I cry sometimes. It's good for the soul.
