Our city schools are open today but I expect they will be closed tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm in Ohio. It is very cold but it's supposed to get worse as the day goes on. The only schools in my county that are closed are the ones that are located in a more rural area.
Our local schools have already used the 5 allotted emergency days so anything from here on out are going to have to be paid back. I think that is part of the reason they didn't close today.

Same here with the windchill. It was 15 I think when I left for work but the wind was gusting something crazy. I saw a few people on FB saying they were keeping their kids home today because when school lets out at 3:00 and their kids would be walking home, it's supposed to get really, really brutally cold.
What I can't understand is the number of people my age who claim that regardless of what the weather was like, we had school. Ummm, no we didn't. I remember having snow days.

Our schools are closed too. We have so much snow it's awesome!
When I was growing up, we didn't have the snow days like they have now. Our school was a Catholic school which was our neighborhood school. They didn't have buses, we all walked to school it was less than a mile away. Not a big deal.
Where we live now, the HS is out in the middle of nowhere. Nobody walks to school, they all drive or bus in. That is the difference.
The lake effect now machine is working overtime and I don't think they will have school tomorrow either. It's so cold that the icemelt that they put on the roads won't melt the snow and ice.

Here in SW MI., we still have white out conditions in the area. Looks like a giant snowglobe. My outside thermometer shows 17. We are trying to get food out for the birds, but gravy it's deep with snow. A few more days like today, and we won't be able to see our mailbox from the house. Sheesh! Spring, where are you?

We haven't got so much as a flake this year & January is our heaviest snow month. Ugh!

It's 12 degrees in Buffalo, minus 15 windchill. They say it will be down to minus 30 windchill this evening - when I have to go work out with the trainer!
I woke up to a LOT of snow and spent about half an hour shoveling at 5:30. My neighbor leaves for work around six (she is 86!!!!and works full time in the floral shop she owns) and I like to make sure she has a clear path to her garage. It was a balmy 24 before the sun rose tis morning.
I am getting sick of this weather...although it's nice to not have to work until February.

My grandchildren lost most of their Easter vacation and have to make up another day in Feb they were supposed to have off. IF the schools close anymore they will be dipping into Summer vacation. All these make up days are due to having off for cold and or snow in the Northeast (PA).
Stay warm and safe!
