We had adopted a 4 year old poodle cross at a shelter for 2 months now. He is already housetrained, very relaxed, and such a good dog which we felt so lucky. But until last week, he bit both of our girls (4 and 11) in the same day on their lips. It broke the skin on my 11 year old girl. We thought it might of been something the girls did like accidentally hurt him. But until yesterday out of the blue when my 4 year old went to pet him, he bit her pretty bad on her upper check real close to her eye luckily she didn't need stitches. My husband was sitting there reading his newspaper and it happened just right by him. When we adopted him at the shelter, they did tell us that the last owner turned him in because when he was chasing the cat and got the cat he was trying to break them up and he bit him. At the shelter, they put him in separate room for 2 months to evaluate him and he did not show any sign of aggression so they released him for adoption. After yesterday, we are about to take him back to the shelter but he is such a darling that it's hard for us to do that so we are looking a new home for him instead that don't have children. Do you ladies think if that is a good idea? or should we just take him back to the shelter? I just don't want him to hurt anyone else. What make dog bite children? I searched and read to see what could cause it but nothing that the kids did that could provoked him to bite at least we know about. At the same time, our kids are so heartbroken that we are planning to remove him from our home. Any suggestions? TIA
