Our Road Is Just About Done.

They started working on our road weeks ago. It has been down to dirt forever.

I went out this morning and they are finally paving it.  Holy crow, it is like driving on glass.  Smooth, no potholes and we have honest to goodness yellow lines down the middle.

This is the best this road has been in decades.

Isn't it amazing how many decades it takes to get needed roadwork done?  Too many factors are in the mix.

@ECBG   The road has been "done" in the past, just not done the right way.  It was either just patched or done in a 1/2 butt manner.

This time it was done right.  They did what I think is called milled. Took the old asphalt/paving off and took it right down to dirt. Basically built it from the ground up.

All I know is that it is as dream to drive on.

@CrazyKittyLvr2

Same thing going on here on the State Highway above our home. Only 1 way in and 1 way out from our home. A 5 minute drive now? Wait for the pilot car to even get onto the highway? 10-15 minutes waiting for that 5 minute drive. Only way in and out to our home! And close to 3 miles of road undergoing this project.

@CrazyKittyLvr2   Must be paving time in a lot of places. My subdivision was finished last week and it is nice but now when I back out of driveway it looks like I am going into a black hole!Smiley Surprised  Gives me a jolt when I first start going each time.  I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.

Re: Our Road Is Just About Done.

The main road back to where I live was recently repaved after being in bad shape for awhile. Funny how that happened all of a sudden when they  are building a new development  below me to make way for the extra 200-400 cars that will be using that road to get to my street into that development. They can't use the other main road as it's in a flood zone, so 2 streets will have to have all those extra cars coming and going all day. Also, 4 more new logistic centers being built. I can hardly wait.

Re: Our Road Is Just About Done.

About 10 years ago, the 2-lane state road in front of our home became a 5-lane state road with a turn lane.  There used to be a farm across the road which had become a very nice development with underground utilities.

( During Hurricane Sandy they had power the whole week while we didn't ! )

I don't remember how long it took to build.  All I remember is that they took some of our front large lawn and the 7 40-foot Blue Spruce trees.  Now as I go out of our driveway, in a minute I have access to a beautiful Parkway that is a real timesaver !

The worst element now is the driver who insists on letting me make the left turn into my driveway during rush hour.  It is extremely dangerous as that " courteous " driver can't see the oncoming car in the lane next to him / her.  I wave them on and even have had to continue down the road to turn around when they ignore my hand waving them on.
