Ours has turned on a couple of times in the wee hours.  I live in south western CT.

It's going to be 90 degrees here today. Midwest

 

It was 48 one night last week and a couple were in the low 50s. Perfect sleeping weather.  

 

There is no way I'm turning on my furnace in Sept. I may use it in October if temps hit 30s.
