Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

In Louisiana Gov. Edwards has stayed with Federal guidelines for just about everything COVID related.  But he also considers the statistics for our state.  He announced yesterday that people 70 years and older will be part of group 1b, instead of the Federal guideline of 75 years and older.  Edwards said that statistics for La. show that age is where the death rates go up.  The 1b distribution is supposed to start on Monday, when a limited amount of Moderna vaccine is supposed to arrive.  It sounds to me as if the chances for a non nursing home senior to get a shot around here is still pretty small at this point.

First off, the CDC is a hot mess, and has been through this whole thing. They decide what to do based on a finger in the wind, rarely true science.

Some states are dividing up the early vaccine available to cover various high risk groups.

And I don't think anyone should say that is wrong. There needs to be something done besides a 'one size fits all' follow the sheep to slaughter, do what your told mentality in this.

I think letting the states distribute how they see fit, based on the fact that the governors and the health officials in those states know much more about their citizens than the CDC does, makes perfect sense.

Like every step of this crisis, there is a learning curve. Having different areas do and try different things is how we are going to learn what works, what doesn't, and give us data and protocol in the future. Just everyone following the guidelines of the incompetent and highly lacking CDC isn't wise in the least.

And I will say if the numbers are run, my guess is that more people over 75 have been listed as dying from the virus than healthcare workers. If that is the case, I feel it would be 'fair' for a state to divide the available vaccine between the elderly and the front line covid medical workers.

After all, those in the groups supposedly having the highest death rate should be considered top priority, or at least equal in priority to the health care workers.

You have GOT to be kidding.  Your governers don't know more about virus' than virologists at the CDC.  The CDC has scientific knowledge that far surpasses what any single governer would know.  Of course you'd be happy with this, you are getting the vaccination, but MANY MANY nurses are not.  Hopefully one day you will see how your ignorance as well as many others like you, about science ruined a nation.

@pinkcrystal

No, I'm not kidding. The CDC is a hot mess, and has been since the start of this ("nobody needs a mask" to "masks are essential", just the beginning).

And yes, good state health departments in conjunction with the governors do absolutely know more about their citizens needs that the CDC. They know their populations, they know their individual hot spots, and at risk groups. The CDC isn't concerning itself with a state by state, county by county, population by population breakdown in each state.

Learn to read. I'm not getting any vaccination, this isn't my thread. I'm not in any category to be getting it initially, and I don't need it at this time, as I was ill in November, and tested as having both kinds of antibodies in December. I think before you address someone as ignorant  you better look in the mirror, learn to read and know what the heck you are talking about. Yelling at me about getting a vaccine, and your misinformed information about how competent the CDC is is appalling.

Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

Report on the news tonight is that many States are failing in their rollout of the vaccine . Very few people have been immunized and there are some thousands of  doses  that will expire  before anyone will receive them at this rate. The  Guidelines by the CDC and  some States like have been so restrictive  which is being identified as a causitive factor in slow rollout . What a hot mess  and disservice to us all

Husband got his yesterday. Has to go back last of Jan . for the 2nd one.

I  thought with Moderna shot it was just a one shot, but, guess it's really 2.   That surprised us.   Yes, it's free.

It's the J&J one they are now talking about only needing 1 shot - but I know that some people in the news recently suggested maybe only give people have a dose of the 1st Moderna shot so more people would be able to get the shot, but FDA then came out and said it needed to be full strength to work right.

Texas is changing the CDC recommendations and doing Phase 1A as nursing home residents, healthcare workers, and first responders. Phase 1 B is everyone over 65 and those over age 16 with underlying medical conditions. We will be in the Phase 1B group so are grateful not to be way back in line. The Gov acknowledged that all seniors who are at such high risk of getting very sick from COVID 19 do not live in nursing or assisted living places, so they need to also be among the first to get the vaccine. I am disappointed though, that teachers are left off the list completely. Every day they are being asked to risk their lives by going to school and teaching our children. They should also be among the first to receive it. When I taught, flu vaccines were given at school; we just lined up and the school nurse gave it. They should do the same for all teachers when they return to school.

MD Gov Hogan announced today they were moving Teachers to Phase 1B, hoping to get schools open again soon (but people have to remember you have to have the 2nd shot before you are at 90-95% affective), it's not one and done.

Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

My husband was offered the vaccine today and refused to get it.  He, like me doesn't trust it.  His boss said it wasn't mandatory yet and asked him what if did become mandatory.  My DH replied that he would quit his job immediately.  It seems more than half of his coworkers said the same thing.

I saw today that a 41 year old nurse with no preX conditions died within 48 hours of getting vaccinated in Portugal.  I think we will see more of this.  I think there are more, but we are hearing that the problems are not vaccine related.

How many times have you seen the 1-800- Call a lawyer commercials on TV for a drug that was studied for years and tested completely before it was released and now they are finding that it caused harm or death?

The Covid vaccine has received very little testing and only for a short amount of time.  It has been approved for emergency use.  If we were not in a pandemic, it would never have been allowed to roll out yet.

If anyone wants the vaccine, you can have mine.  I feel safer without it, than with it.  We are being manipulated by panic, not common sense.

Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

@agb80   I do too, but I wouldn't be surprised if the vaccine paid a big part in her death, that info will be suppressed.

I find it concerning that now after the vaccine has already been given out to many people all over the world, vaccine specialists are sounding an alarm that they may or may not be safe and there was no data available about them prior to their release.

@Carmiewith all due respect I've read your posts (by clicking on your name) and I am really stunned for all of your pessimism.  I think you are a very intelligent person and must be married to a smart man too...but I am truly astounded.  In fact, you are kind of scaring me with your predictions.  Woman Indifferent

Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

@agb80   I am sorry.  I don't mean to scare anyone, but everyone should think long and hard and do research before they make a decision.

Your decision might not be the same as mine.  That is okay.  We are all different.  I can tell you that I am scared as hell to get the vaccine.  I need more information first and it is not forthcoming. I am not predicting anything.  How could I be?  No one knows what's going to happen because there are not enough tests or research.

Just telling me something is good for me doesn't work.  I need to know for sure that this is true.  That's just how I am.  I always error on the side of safety and follow my gut.  My gut is telling me something is amiss here.

With more information, I could change my mind at a later time.  I am always open to learn something and have no problem changing my mind.
