Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

I was surprised to hear our Community will have the health dept. here on Monday to administer the Moderna vaccine to all homeowners.

This is a good sign as most of our "community" amenities except for golf & dining room have been closed since March.

I assume this Community was selected since average age is 80+.

Tomorrow I'm going to call spouses pulmonary specialist to see if he can get it since he has pneumonia and I don't know enough about vaccine + plus anyone receiving it with health issues need to get clearance thru their physician.

I hope your DH is feeling a bit better daily! Make sure you take care of yourself and keep your strength up (it's easy to neglect ourselves when being a caretaker).

In my state, after health care workers, the residents of nursing homes are to  be first to get the vaccine since these facilities have had such a high death  rate.  Then others over age 75.  I thought this was the sequence recommended by the CDC.

@Kachina624 Yes, that is the CDC recommendation, but it seems every county in America is making its own decision. Also, the CVS/Walgreen distribution to long term care facilities now includes federally rent subsidized 55+ housing. Not long term care or assisted living. So if you're low income in that kind of housing you just won the lottery. In the bigger picture, that group is pretty small, but still ........

@homedecor1 ... your community is supposed to follow the sequence recommended by the CDC.  What they are doing is wrong.   There is a limited supply of the vaccine so your community may be depriving health care personnel, etc.  from getting it.

@Boehm Collector : OP may live in Florida (or Texas, Ohio) where local governors chose to set much more liberal parameters.

Re: Our Community is receiving the vaccine Monday🙂

@homedecor1 From what you've posted, it sounds like you live in a high end community that is being given special treatment, but that may not be the case, since we're not privy to your specific areas plan.

It generally depends on how far along a particular area is in immunizing essential health care workers, first. Once those who want/need the vaccine are taken care of, they can quickly move on to the next groups, based on a certain percentages already covered.

However, in my own area, we're having difficulty even immunizing the direct caregivers. I have an RN friend who went for her vaccination yesterday, to find they were out of vaccine. They also didn't know when they'd receive more.  There's a serious problem! She was placed on a wait list -- number 400. She's just one of many I know, who is very discouraged with how this thing is rolling out.

Husband got his yesterday. Has to go back last of Jan . for the 2nd one.

I  thought with Moderna shot it was just a one shot, but, guess it's really 2.   That surprised us.   Yes, it's free.

If the rollout is this chaotic, I can't imagine what will happen with the second shot, when people may be clamoring to get the first one and compete for the completion doses.
