The menu sounds delicious .

I think they're against it becoming more mainstream. Vegetarianism/veganism upsets the hierarchy of man over animal. They see it as moral to control and harm animals at will, and not to grant animals any particular rights or consideration

When you grant an animal special consideration by refusing to eat it, and these folks find out about it, that bumps up against their morals and values and it bothers them.

If vegetarianism becomes even more popular, they will have those morals bumped up against more often and they don't want to deal with the hassle. I mean, who wants to deal with more hassle? Better to try to head it off if you can.

@Porcelain

The term 'vegetarianism' is being phased out.
Everyone is slowing realizing dairy & eggs to be just as, if not worse,

than meat.

That's not the focus.

This is more of a focus on the ethical & environmental aspects

@sidsmom What it is, is disrespecting different beliefs and choices, and disregarding and insulting people who don't hold the same beliefs and ideas that you do.

What if I invited you to dinner and served you a big old rare steak, some meatballs, and a slab of ribs and nothing else?  What would that say about my respect for you?

It's just an example of tolerance that so many people have these days.

Some feel that because they feel they are morally superior they have the right/obligation to put everyone else down because they do not think/act like they do.  Typical bully behavior at the very least.  Have to wonder why no one bothers them for being vegetarian/vegans yet some choose to attack those who eat meat at every opportunity.

Why would you wonder about something that isn't true?

Maybe you don't bother anyone for being vegan, there are plenty of people who do.

I read the thread and there was no subtle or overt hostility toward vegans.  We only discussing a menu that deliberately chose to exclude non vegans and non vegetarians.  It was an odd, inhospitable thing to do.  I've been to a couple vegan/vegetarian friendly functions and weddings but I've never been to one that did not include everyone.  When you give a function, you want everyone to have a good time and a good meal but apparently not at that particular luncheon.

@Chrystaltree- never mind

The dinner menu was a focus on the need for change for the

environment and to the ethical treatment of animals.

The tolerance isn't about us...it's about the animals being

needlessly killed for no reason. If one doesn't understand kindness

to sentient beings, then you will never understand it.
A paradigm shift is in motion....whether you understand this or not.

Like I said upthread kind is the goal, in this case.

As Joaquin Phoenix said in his acceptance speech last night

(speaking of his brother, River):

When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric. It said,
"Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow"

🌼

@sidsmom I am a religious person.  But I understand many people are not and I do not fault them or think less of them, nor do I try to force my views on them.   My point is that there is no tolerance for others who don't believe as YOU believe--and it is common today.

You are free to belittle people here who don't share your views.  I think it is a shame you choose to do so however.

Why can't people do what they want even if you disagree?

I would rather get what my body needs from a wide variety of foods. If you would rather eat rabbit food & take vitamins that is your choice.

Vegan food is all very well and good but unfortunately its followers are often cult like and is a real turn off for me. Maybe expressing the message with less militancy  would help. Sure, a vegan meal at the Oscars would be fun but it shouldn't be the only choice out of respect for different food preferences.

There is a YouTube channel I came across recently about the deterioration of vegans health. It was scary seeing how some take it to the extreme and it is really orthorexia in disguise.

Live and let live is my motto. I would not expect anyone to eat the way I do and telling anyone how they should eat is really crass.

For various reasons people can't or don't stick to this way of eating for long periods of time.
