I watched the beginning of the show last night, and it was a pleasure to see so many beautiful young people so eleborately coiffed and dressed. However, and maybe this happened after I turned off the TV, weren't there in past years filmed tributes to stars of yesteryear who had died during 2015? Or special awards to older academy members?
I liked to see that a number of older women were receiving Oscars for sound, animation, and special effects (as well as costuming): many of those in the 50+ range were receiving their first nomination and award. That to me was very cool.

Very strange Oscar this year. Total lack of older stars and real movie stars. Only 2 happy points for me. 1. Leo finally won. 2. Cate Blanchette's superb dress.

You did indeed turn off the show too soon. There was a nice tribute to industry people who had died last year with someone singing the Beatle's Blackbird.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night..."

I didn't watch, but aren't some of the presenters the actors who won awards last year?

I believe it was Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

Oh, I am sorry to have missed that montage--I like that performer and "Blackbird" is my favorite Beatles song. So simple but so beautiful as a tune. Thanks, @tansy and @deepwaterdotter. I wil check to see if it goes on You Tube.
Being Irish, I love commemorations and memories, so I missed seeing that usual montage of faces and personalities from yesteryear.
A wag once called the obituary section of The Boston Globe (my hometown newspaper) "the Irish sports pages," ie, the first section the Irish readers scanned before they read through page 1.
