Hooray. South Africa is not releasing Oscar Pistorius today after all. He was going to be released from prison and moved to house arrest after serving only 10 months of his paltry 5 year sentence for killing his girlfriend.
I hope he rots in jail. He should have gotten a life sentence for that murder.

I've read due to prison overcrowding in SA, it is the norm for prisoners to serve only 1/6 of their term. They are then given house arrest which allows them to work and do charity work.

He'll be under house release in short order. Legal proceedings in South Africa differ greatly from our own, but I thought the prosecution's case for murder was weak.

I think he should have been given a much stronger prison sentence to begin. I know the SA judicial system is much different thn ours but it doesn't seem fair or right to me that they tell him he will be released and then cave in to public pressure and reverse themselves. I think he'd have been released if word of his uncle's posh, palace-like, home hadn't been leaked. Also, it's customary in SA for prisoners to serve only a small portion of their sentence.

I couldn't believe they let him get away with that. -- Cold-blooded MURDER.

I agree. His story of what happened was absolutely not credible.

Why wasn't he released today? Just an administrative delay?

It's explained in the link I posted in my first post. That's why I posted it.

Oh, I see. August is Women's Month, so they think he should be kept behind bars at least for the duration of the month (among other reasons).

That women's group put on a lot of pressure not to release him yet.
As you can read, though, it wasn't an "administrative delay."
