@Noel   You are absolutely right that we must each eat as healthy as we can and do what works for us.

Funny thing: the pyramid you showed is the WORST set up for ME. Reverse it with meat on the bottom and grains on the top and you have MY eating plan for life. Proving, once again, there is no "one way" to eat and be healthy. : )

You're right!    I don't eat a lot of what's on the bottom, either, although I could go for grains.

Re: Oprah loses $27 million in WW shares

I think WW has worked for many people. I know some of them. You have to do the program, follow it, and be aware. Some people have a hard time with their weight. It's nothing to make fun of, just like a religion, nationality, etc. It's almost like a  disease, there is something else usually going on in their lives that makes it hard to take it off and keep it off. I have been thin and heavy. I have recently lost 50 lbs. by myself. Cutting down what I eat, eating better, and much less sweets. I need to start exercising, and helping my body respond to losing weight. If WW would help me, I would try it. I feel that if Oprah can't keep her weight off, with physical trainers, her own chef, etc. she has something going on mentally. Not to be made fun of, but to try and understand. Why is it ok to make fun of people with weight issues???? I don't understand people, Americans are heavy in general. Give Ophrah some kudos for trying, don't you think she knows she is talked about regarding her weight. Look at all the good things she does for so many. Give her some credit, and hope she can get whatever 'ghosts' haunt her will go away.

Re: Oprah loses $27 million in WW shares

I agree that the calories you choose can affect your weight loss.If you choose all process and sugar then your body can't digest as well and some will have to be stored as fat.If you eat the same calories choosing healthy whole foods then you can process them as fuel and more calories will be burned.I really believe that what you put in your body matters as to how efficiently it operates.My son is a good example.He doesn't eat much but he likes the least healthy choices.He had a difficult time loosing weight until he went on the Daniel fast.This diet allows you to consume a lot but you can't have sugar,processed foods,alcohol,meat or white flour.He was on this plan for three weeks and lost almost ten pounds.He said he ate a lot of food but now he realizes that it is about the choices of food for his body type that has been his problem.

Hi JJsMom Smiley Happy

I've always heard that, also, but WW is saying it's not true.  I don't know...

Re: fruit, I have read that the high fiber somehow cancels out part of the sugar contained and that's why WW can call a moderate or light amount "Free."

It's been a couple of years since the studies came out so I don't know about peer review.

Hi, Noel!

Fiber can make you feel fuller and keep you from overeating. That part is true. Choosing foods that are not calorie-dense (like broccoli and lean meats) leaves you feeling fuller on a lower amount of calories. However, the actual calories are still the same. If you eat more calories than you burn, whether it's in Twinkies or broccoli and fruit, you will gain weight.

I lost 10 lbs. tracking my calories on MyFitnessPal, and I didn't cut out anything. I ate anything I wanted but in moderation. I enjoyed bread, rice, cookies, and ice cream ... just not a ton of it. MFP will track your macro nutrients for you too (carbs, protein, fat). You can use that to make sure you're getting the right balance.

The best part is MFP is free. For those who don't want to pay for WW, I highly recommend it!

@JJsMom

  Where did you find this?

@Tinkrbl44 -Thank you for letting me know about My Fitness Pal - it has helped tremendously - I did not realize how much I was snacking on each day - it has made a huge difference!  Thanks!
