Opinions - we're all entitled to ours

I was going to put this as a response to a specific thread (one that I'm not involved in, but, one where a poster was, in my view, being unfairly jumped on by some), but, I decided to make it a separate thread.

I shouldn't have to state that this is my opinion, as, because I'm writing it, it should be obvious that it's my opinion.  However, there are those (some on the boards, NOT ALL) that feel a poster has to state the obvious.

There are many posters who chastise others about what they perceive to be judgmental posts; yet, these same posters are passing their own judgment in doing that.

Opinions are deemed directives. Opinions are not welcome if they differ from others.  Opinions are offensive if they're not positive.

How do you start a discourse without opinions? Sorry, I just hate the hypocrisy of some (not all). I see it over and over again in threads. If you don't toe the line; you're rude,  judgmental, trolling, controlling. People jump all over you.

Opinions are just that--opinions. If someone has that much power over you that their view threatens you; it's on you, not them.

Also,  the same tired response: change the channel,  pick up the remote. Do those that dismiss the posters they're dissing not realize that they should have taken their own advice and passed on the thread/post?

That's all.  Thanks for listening.

I'm not sure who's not "toeing the line" but maybe you've read something here that I haven't, so I can't really discuss that point.

One thing you skipped over was that some people actually confuse their  "opinions" with "facts".   In those cases, a spirited discussion is bound to ensue.

When someone comes along who, basically, says "don't confuse me with the facts, I've already made up my mind"  it seems to spark debate.   That happens on EVERY message board, not just this one.

If you want harsh go to the  Fashion board.  Some of the fashionistas not only give opinions on a product but the women who buy it.. And they always act like their review is the only answer.

Some people routinely (and quite vigorously) state their "opinions" as both directives and facts.

Viewing this as "well obviously it's still just their opinion" is reaching with regard to these people, who *want* their opinions to be perceived as directives and facts.

I see no reason to give them a pass and a pat on the head.

When my opinion doesn't "toe the line", I just pass by that thread.  It takes too much of my time and energy to argue or debate on a shopping channel board..

Some people may actually believe their opinion is fact, but that's not my problem. What matters is me knowing the difference.

I agree that we should all feel free to express our opinions and no one is obligated to always be positive. We should, however, strive to be kind. In fact, it's a community standard for posting.

When I read this post I can't help but wonder if some are taking it all to seriously or are spending too much time with it!   I try and just roll with everyone's different opinions and enjoy and have fun with it!  Some of the things that are said are no different from when we have a casual conversation with a good friend!  Woman Happy

@ILTH@SusieQ_2@deepwaterdotter@Moonchilde@Plaid Pants2

Have you all noticed that when giving an opinion in writing, that is a situation requiring more careful wording?

Needing to read and re-read the tone of my post often makes me pass up the "opportunity" to express my opinion.

Also, I DO have to "couch" what I write with "clarifying words."

It is difficult to be humorous (for me) (sometimes) because my sense of humor can have a biting edge.  Or perceived as a bitter edge.

I TRY to take the step of clarifying enough that people know my intentions.  For instance, I am writing these opinions as purely objective statements with nobody in mind.

Just my thoughts...

ITA .... but some people seem to need to vigorously defend their positions, as if they are being called liars, which they aren't .... go figure.
