'Opinion: Americans need to rediscover the lost art of tolerance'

[ Edited ]

Title of an article I just read.

Yes, I agree.  So much of what goes berserk on this forum is caused by a glaring absence of tolerance.

A concept that works best with an open mind and mature reasoning, but that's just my opinion.

I don't see this forum going berserk.  Before it would ever get to that point, problems would be reported and the mods would put a stop to it.  Perhaps you should define berserk?

There is certainly intolerance aplenty in other areas of our society. It's even a big problem with police departments.  I think people are just generally angry and take any excuse to take it out on someone or something.

I can't disagree with that.

Oh, I read posts that are seething with anger or are heatedly excited.  They often remain for hours before they are taken down.  Oftentimes I am stunned by the intensity of an opinion contrary to someone else's, Kachina.

I don't know -- but sometimes I can sense a great deal of contempt in a post.

Well what I see is that, often the ones who insist that others be tolerant are themselves the most intolerant.

I just can't tolerate some things and never will.  But on the whole, I agree with the article.  But I really don't want to be "tolerated" I'd rather be accepted.
