I participate on another forum and they eliminated their politics section too, due to it getting very arguementative and ugly.

It seems like a race to be the first to post when someone dies here.

Discus forums have political discussions, too.

I was in two small groups on Facebook, one fitness related, the other my high school grad class. Even those got political, as has much of Facebook. Hardly ever go to Facebook anymore. Just check my family photos on Instagram.

I do like a lively discussion on current events and there's a couple people I never had the chance to ask questions to about their personal belief system that were allowed to slip past the censors. Yet, I think it can also be disappointing when someone you really enjoy reading and posting with tells you too much and it turns out to be completely opposite of your own beliefs. I know people can be friends with someone with opposing beliefs but when it comes down to the basics I don't know.

Tells You too much how @truffle?
I don't mind opposing views but when it comes down to not liking someone in power because of an issue that happened several decades or even centuries ago then that doesn't make sense to me. My grandfather's issues may not be my issues today.
I'm going to stick my neck out on a limb and say that when a person can't debate the issue without bringing in dress sizes, what they eat, their kids, clothing choice, hairdos, bare arms and other things that don't matter then you've lost me.

@JaneMarple What I mean is when someone tells you their beliefs and they're really not open to debate. I really hate this trait about myself but certain topics that I have strong beliefs about (none that I can mention here) it is hard to enjoy that person anymore when I realize they have completely opposite feelings. I'm referring to political things that we can't openly talk about.

I understand your point @truffle and I used to be the same. My kids helped me to open my eyes to see people as individuals and really put myself in that person's shoes and to realize why they make/made the dicisions that they do/did. I totally believe in free will, no one has the right to force their beliefs on another person whether we agree or not.
