Re: One channel live (sometimes) and so few items

QVC is no longer holding my interest. The variety is gone.

Also, seeing my husband's packages arriving in two to three days from Amazon while I sit and wait weeks on some of mine is growing old. I waited three weeks on a makeup compact.....just nuts.

I am rethinking much of my shopping..........it is time.

@Mominohio The only thing I disagree with you about is the younger audience. I'm 72 and have a GD is her 20's and that age group and 30 year olds have never been an audience for QVC as I know from talking to a bunch of them in the past when I was working.

I'm going to be 60, but when I was in my 30's I was an avid QVC watcher/shopper, as were many of my friends and acquaintances of the same age group. QVC has always been more popular with older groups, but they once were making inroads with the younger demographics a couple of decades ago.

But today's 20 and 30 somethings are definitely not going to be QVC's major demographic. They are trying to market to them, but they can't or won't offer what they want in selection, shipping, etc.

I can remember rushing around so I could sit there for that wonderful hour of silver.  All kinds of designs and sometimes stones.  Still have a lot, it was good stuff.  Now?

Maybe QVC is having difficulty getting items (inventory) to show on air?  I've shopped for furniture recently and several different stores and one of the first thing they check is in stock availability on delivery date(s) if you're interested in anything.  For the most part, inventory is very low and delivery is sometimes 6-8 weeks out.  I also looked at chandeliers and owner on the store went on and on and on about the same thing.  Not being able to get inventory.

With the elimination of live programming from QVC2, will the main channel go back to 24 hours of live programming?

Re: One channel live (sometimes) and so few items

@Mominohio   When I was in my 30s QVC was a novelty.  Very few if any people had computers (this was in the early 1980s's when QVC/HSN got started).  Watching the shopping channels was great fun.   And no stores had websites.

Now every store has a website with a wide variety of products.  And free or reduced shipping.  And of course Amazon.  QVC cannot or will not compete with any of those sources.  Young people do not shop here and as they age they won't either.  JMHO!!

Re: One channel live (sometimes) and so few items

They have such a valuable platform and they're just squandering it. Amazon is trying to create what QVC already has. Amazon has different streaming shows based on the different categories of products.

QVC is the best way to sell items that need to be demonstrated and/or explained and/or shown in detail from all angles. Items that would be harder to sell just off the shelf in a store or from a catalog or website. Items where it is not immediately obvious what they do or why you would want them.

And instead of playing to their strengths, QVC is trying to turn their hosts into low skilled Best Buy salesmen, all patter and zero knowledge or detail, and they're trying to turn the buying experience into being more like a catalog or Amazon. Amazon is going to eventually make their shows more popular (because they will be entertaining yet worthwhile to watch) than QVC's and then it will be completely over.

@ScrapHappy

Indeed you are right. I went washing machine shopping yesterday and am HOPING for a delivery & installation Friday IF THE STORE  where i wound up purchasing receives their appliance delivery in time. I was told at 2 places that production and delivery has slowed down for them thanks of course to the virus.

Re: One channel live (sometimes) and so few items

I don't think QVC's product mix appeals to much of anyone now.  If you are young you probably aren't interested in what they have (their tech items are discontinued models and woefully overpriced); their clothes aren't something you'd wear; you aren't interested in home decor; you don't need kitchen stuff because you don't cook; you don't do yardwork, etc.

If you are old you probably aren't buying much of this stuff either.  You don't want it, already have it, and if you have it you are trying to get rid of it.

And if you don't have it and need it, you get it from Amazon or direct from the manufacturer.

I was thinking along the same lines the other day.

Now that there is only one live channel and two that are doing reruns, why not eliminate some--if not many--of the repeat product airings on the main channel?  Change it up with more variety.  Or even have some of the hosts or vendors make a short video clip of some products they don't want to give a full presentation of and put those on Q2 for an hour in between repeats.  A show on the main channel that's fast paced and offers many products for a short period of time each, since so many people seem to like that idea.

They can try out new ideas in between their old staid programming and see if they work.  But geez, at least go back to 24 hour live on the one remaining live network.  Surely they have enough sets and equipment to be able to sanitize without having to close down completely like a brick and mortar store.  And they still have enough hosts left.
