Outrageous for honorable, civic-minded and brave employees to have been treated so shabbily. I was hoping that the weight of public opinion against such callous employers would have caused them to re-think the firings-- but apparently not.
Have such respect (and awe) for the police (and their families who live with this) who go out every day, not knowing if they will return at close of shift. Countless police rush into situations where they know not what awaits them-- ambush, entrapment, battle-- and all because they try to keep public order and protect potential victims of crime. The "thin blue line" can hold only if criminals are prosecuted and held to orderly standards of justice. When they are not, bad actors are emboldened and chaos ensues.

@beach-mom Thank you very much for your excitement and kind words about my future career choice ![]()
! I really love kids and I used to teach toddlers and babies how to swim and I'm going to use that really sweet and great tip you gave me about an officer keeping stuffed animals in his car to comfort kids before the social workers arrived. I still love stuffed animals, even in my early 30's, so it'll be easy for me to keep them on hand.
It is a shame that a lot of cops are painted with a broad brush of being violent or evil. I remember when I was excitedly telling a cashier that I passed the written exam to get into my city's police academy, a man angrily walked up to me and swore in my face and called me a murderer- I told him that he doesn't even know me or my intentions behind entering this career, but he was blind with rage and kept yelling at me and saying that I was going to kill people. I definitely can't change that man's mind, but all I can do is keep a level head, believe in myself anf move forward in my steps to getting this job. I'll keep you and everyone posted ![]()

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes Your'e definitely right- its a high adrenaline situation to witness shoplifting. When I worked luxury retail selling designer purses, thieves would wait until around 9pm when it was just one other girl coworker and myself working and then they'd run in and steal purses right in front of us or get in our faces. Not only is it scary to go through that, but there's a lengthy process that has to be completed right after: calling mall security, calling the manager, writing an internal report and writing a report to police, creating a loss form with exact amounts etc.
I'd run after the thieves, but since I had to wear stilettos for the job I couldn't get far. Not only were theives sometimes big guys, but there were occasional biohazards: a meth addicted prostitute who ripped off parts of her face stole rings from us and bloodied the counter and I had to clean it, Our hands were tied, because we we're not allowed to intervene as employees. I felt so powerless and angry watching $400 or more handbags run out of the door.

I find it incredibly sad that our retail businesses are being abused so violently. Our local ULTA store gets hit every few weeks by two or more shoplifters. I hesitate to go in for fear of what I might stumble on. Outlet stores the same. When I saw someone offering like 50 pairs of some boots locally on a neighborhood group, I did not think this person came by them legitimately. When I see on tv an add for a Kitchen Aid mixer for $40 I don't think that can be legitimate either. Somehow they are allowed to advertise . obviously a lot of people don't have consciences.

Most of the high-end boutique stores are going to have shopping by-appointment only. Those in the ritzy part of town here have had that for years. They also have police officers who escort shoppers to their cars when they have made a purchase that is thousands of dollars, which most of the stores only carry. I wonder what Nordstroms will do. I did read that most stores like Neimans and Nordstroms will be closing their outside entrances and have only entrances into the malls where they are located...but not sure how the fire marshalls will go along with that plan.
