Congratulations, you've taken a big step Smile

I don't know much about the non-smoking aids, I quit cold turkey, but I know a lot of people like the nicotine patch.

I do have hints for you that you probably won't get from anyone else... behavior modification. It worked for me to change the behaviors I associated with smoking. I always sat in one chair and had a cigarette or more every day when I called my mother on the phone. I started calling her from our bedroom because I'd never smoked in there. It really helped.

See if there are behaviors like that you can change.

GOOD LUCK!

Good advice. Also, if there is a support group. That's how my aunt did it.

Re: One Cig. today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is hard. Try not to lose your momentum, by getting sidetracked with second guesses. Find a thought that you could use as a powerful mantra so to speak, every time you feel your resolve start to weaken. Like. "I won't give another dime nor another precious moment of my life over to those coffin nails, nor to those cigarette companies who are knowingly producing an addicting and deadly substance that robs children of parents and grandparents, husbands and wives of each other, and so on, and renders so many crippled by disease and cancers of all kinds, and gasping for breath. Then go do something else, even when you get dizzy.

Congratulations! One day at a time.

I am a strong believer in support groups! Exchanging telephone numbers is good, too. Someone to call when it gets tough.

Noel...do you always have to invade a thread and start a "snarky" response to someone's post? Can't you ever be nice and post your advice without a thread having to be all about you and your nastiness? Just wondering. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

It's my fault, really. I seem to be wearing a pork chop necklace, or something, today. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Congratulations. I quit cold turkey & can tell you the first 3 days are the worst. If you can find something to take your mind off it the craving will pass.

There has been a lot on our news about e-cigs. They are being banned in a lot of places & pieces of metal have been found in the vapor. I would pass on those.

""Smoke Enders"" I believe that is the support group my aunt used. She tried other methods but that did it for her. This was before e-cigs.

Do you have a source for that, please?

Re: One Cig. today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank-you ALL for the great advise much appreciated.I will say though sitting on my couch in front of computer and my tv on i am sweating though. My only problem i'm having is this I know of some people who quit smoking many years ago only to be diagnosed later with some form of cancer due to smoking.Quitting is the hardest and i surely don't want to quit only to find out it didn't matter anyway.Yes i know how will you know if you never quit.

That is absolutely true, Brandonlee. My father died of complications due to lung cancer treatment, 25 years after he quit smoking. Ya just never know and we have to play the hand we're dealt. *hugs*
